Southeastern Oklahoma offensive lineman Cliff Eddings and West Texas A&M quarterback Keith Null were recognized Wednesday as Lone Star Conference officials announced the league's football academic awards.
Eddings, a two-year starter for the Co-North Division champion Savage Storm, was tabbed LSC North Division Academic Player of the Year, while Null earned LSC South Division Academic Player of the Year accolades after leading the league in total offense with 3,229 total yards including 33 touchdowns as the Buffaloes won the LSC and South Division titles.
The two were amongst 23 football players named to the LSC All-Academic Teams, which recognize both academic and athletic achievement.
The All-Academic Teams are voted upon by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All qualifying student-athletes not voted to the All-Academic Team are then placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Altogether, 56 football players were honored through the league's academic awards program, including representative from 10 of the LSC's 13 football-playing member institutions.
NCAA playoff participants WTAMU and Abilene Christian each had five players on the South Division All-Academic Team, while Angelo State added one.
SOSU and Northeastern State both had four selections on the North Division All-Academic Team, while East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma each added two.
With Eddings on the North Division All-Academic Team were teammates Jarrod Anderson, Jairus Martin and Jerome Hewitt, along with NSU's Nick Willson, Broderick Mondy, Jared Homer and Joe Kok, ECU's Chris Mims and Robert McDonald-Douglas, and SWOSU's Steve Day and Josh Postin.
On the South Division All-Academic Team with Null were fellow Buffs Kolt Kittley, Jared Brock, Charly Martin and Mark Ford, ACU's Nathan Young, Mike Kern, Matt Adams, Travis Carpenter and Cody Stutts, and ASU's Josh Hammerquist.
