The Lone Star Conference Degree Completion Scholarship Program awards deserving LSC student-athletes with financial assistance to complete their undergraduate studies. The program is made possible through NCAA Conference Grant funding.
Applications for the LSC Degree Completion Scholarship Program must be postmarked not later than Wednesday, June 23, to be considered.
Student-athletes who meet the following criteria may apply:
- Applicant must be a student-athlete who has exhausted eligibility at an active Lone Star Conference member institution within the past calendar year.
- Applicant shall not be participating in another intercollegiate sport during the period of the award.
- Applicant must have received athletics-related financial aid from the Lone Star Conference member institution.
- Applicant must be within 32 semester hours of completion of his/her first undergraduate degree at the completion of the spring term.
- Awards are limited to student-athletes during their first 10 semesters of full-time collegiate attendance.
- Applicant must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
- Applicant shall not receive any athletics aid if awarded a Lone Star Conference Degree Completion Scholarship.
The LSC Degree Completion Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year will not exceed tuition or $5,000, whichever is less. An award will be granted for not more than two semesters and must be used at the LSC member institution of the applicant. The award will be payable to the institution, coordinated through the financial aid office and disbursed according to normal financial aid or athletics department guidelines. When applicable, the award will be granted for a second term only upon the successful completion of at least 12 hours during the first term with a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Each institution should determine whether the responsibility for identifying candidates and submitting applications should rest with the Faculty Representative, Director of Athletics or Senior Woman Administrator. The application must be submitted to the Conference Office by one of these individuals as a package.
The NCAA plans to announce award winners from its national program by July 1, and the LSC program will then select from those who are not selected to receive financial assistance from that program. Final decisions on the LSC funding should be made by Wednesday, July 7.
