- Eastern New Mexico’s Precious Herrin scored an ENMU-record and LSC-season high 40 points, with a school record 17 field goals against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- Midwestern State is off to a 6-0 start for the ninth time in school history just two seasons after the Mustangs rolled off a school record 14 straight wins to start the 2009-10 season.
LSC BASKETBALL
Lone Star Conference play is underway, with three men’s teams and four women’s squads off to an unbeaten start. A mix of league and non-conference games are set for this week.
The top eight men’s and eight women’s teams will qualify for the championship to be played Feb. 29 - March 4 in Allen, Texas. The postseason tournament will decide the tournament champion and the LSC’s automatic qualification to the NCAA tournament.
The LSC men have a 53-23 overall record so far this season. Midwestern State is the lone unbeaten team, with two other squads having just one loss. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 20-12 overall including 12-10 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 4-1 opposed to the Great American Conference and 4-1 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
The LSC women are 32-36 overall, with two teams - Incarnate Word and Texas Woman’s - with one loss at 5-1. In the NCAA South Central Region, the women’s teams are currently 20-15 overall including 15-8 combined versus Heartland teams, 4-4 opposed to the Great American and 1-3 against the MIAA.

MEN’S OFFENSIVE
Kennon Washington, West Texas A&M University, JR, Guard, Mobile, Ala., W.P. Davidson HS
Washington pushed the Buffs overall record to 6-1 (2-0 LSC)as he averages 17.5 points per game to go along with eight rebounds and four assists this past weekend as the Buffs topped Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road. Washington tallied 21 points and four rebounds against the Cardinals in a 65-63 win before finishing out the weekend with 14 points against the Javelinas.
MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Reggie Brice, Angelo State University, JR, Forward, Atlanta, Georgia, South Gwinett HS
Brice highlighted the win over St. Mary’s by blocking seven shots in the game. It is the second-most blocked shots in a single game in Ram history. His block with 22 seconds left followed by a steal with under five seconds to play sealed the victory. He averaged nine rebounds and nine points this past week alone.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE

Herrin turned in a strong week for the Zias as Lone Star Conference play opened. Over the first two games, she averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots per game. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, she scored an ENMU-record and LSC-season high 40 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, for the sixth double-double of her career. She also blocked four shots and registered a Zia-record for field goals made, as she went 17-22 for the day. The 40 points represented more than half of Eastern’s total, in the 79-71 win. On Saturday, Herrin registered 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots at Incarnate Word.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE
Ashley Leven, West Texas A&M University, SR, Forward, Amarillo, Texas, Amarillo HS
Leven helped guide the Lady Buffs to a 2-0 record in LSC play last week with her outstanding defensive efforts on the court. The senior tallied a team-high 17 rebound (8.5/game) on the week with 11 of them coming on the defensive side of the court. She posted two blocks and was a key player in helping the WT defense limit its opponents to just 33.1 percent shooting and 56.5 points a game. In limited action at Kingsville, the Amarillo native tallied 13 points for the Lady Buffs and had a team-high nine rebounds, coming one rebound shy of her first double-double for the season.
