Central Oklahoma junior Tyler Phillips was tabbed Academic Player of the Year to top a list of five players selected for the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team, it was announced Tuesday by league officials at the LSC Awards Banquet in Bartlesville, Okla.
Phillips is the third-leading scorer for the Bronchos, who are ranked 7th in Division II and won the LSC North Division title. The junior marketing major averages 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.30 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
Joining Phillips on the All-Academic Team were Texas A&M-Commerce’s Andrew Davis, Southwestern Oklahoma’s Zac Howe and Jamere King and Tarleton State’s Wale Ogunoye.
