Men’s basketball postseason awards announced

Central Oklahoma’s Dauntae Williams earned Player of the Year honors in the North Division for the second straight year and Midwestern State’s Chris Hagan captured top honors in the South Division to headline the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball postseason awards announced Tuesday by league officials.

The awards announcement came Tuesday night at a pre-championship banquet in Bartlesville, Okla., where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Thursday. Quarterfinal games will be played all day Thursday, with semifinal games slated for Saturday afternoon and the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Williams and Hagan were among 10 players to pick up first team All-LSC recognition, with five in both the North and South Divisions. Another 10 were selected to the second team, plus 14 more received honorable mention honors.

Joining Williams on the All-LSC North Division first team were Texas A&M-Commerce’s Desmond King, Cameron’s Milton Garner, Northeastern State’s Antoine Branch and Southeastern Oklahoma’s Urald King.

Hagan was joined on the All-LSC South Division first team by West Texas A&M’s Ladarius Hall, Angelo State’s Richard Thomas, Tarleton State’s Corin Henry and Eastern New Mexico’s Stefan Mirabal.

Williams and Hagan earned Player of the Year acclaim by virtue of the most votes in the balloting of the league’s head coaches.

Williams led the Bronchos to their sixth North title in seven years with an 11-1 mark. The senior was second in the league in scoring (21.3 points per game); fifth the LSC in assists (3.8), ranked second in steals (2.4) and added 6.4 boards a game.

Hagan finished the regular season as the LSC’s scoring leader at 21.7 points per game and was third in three-pointers made (61) and fourth in assists (4.3).

Other top awards were distributed for defensive player, newcomer, freshman and coach of the year.

For the South Division, Tarleton’s Henry took Defensive Player of the Year honors, while the Texans Lonn Reisman earned LSC South Coach of the Year credit. ASU’s Andre Adams and Thomas captured the Freshman and Newcomer of the Year awards, respectively.

In the North Division, UCO’s Jarrod McDaniel was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Freshman of the Year honors went to CU’s Desmond Henry. A&M-C’s Desmond King picked up Newcomer of the Year acclaim and the Bronchos Terry Evans was named LSC North Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Overall, over 30 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
