Second Half Explosion Propels No. 4 Buffs to 62-28 Victory in Home-Opener
No. 4 West Texas A&M blew open a 24-14 halftime lead for a 62-28 victory in the 2013 home-opener Saturday evening against Texas A&M-Commerce at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Buffs improved to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference, while TAMUC fell to 2-1 and 0-1 in league play.
In front of the largest home-opening crowd since 2009 at 11,126, WT had its highest offensive output with 62 points which was the most since WT scored 75 points in a 75-13 win over Azusa Pacific on Sept. 13, 2008. WT senior quarterback Dustin Vaughan threw for a career-high 508 yards passing and four touchdowns, while running for a score.
Vaughan moved into second all-time in passing as he is just 342 yards away from catching Taylor Harris who leads the school record with 9,799 passing yards. Vaughan surpassed Keith Null (9,385) and has 9,457 yards.

#25 Mustangs run past West Georgia, 38-28
Midwestern State senior running back Keidrick Jackson rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead the 25th-ranked Mustangs to a 38-28 win over West Georgia Saturday night at University Stadium.
Jackson became the first player in MSU program history to amass 100 rushing yards in 15 games on his to becoming the first running back to run for more than 3,000 career yards. He now has 3,057 career yards trailing only former All-America quarterback Daniel Polk, who had 3,590 rushing yards from 2004-07.
But Jackson, who moved passed long-time NFL running back Dominic Rhodes in career 100-yard games, was just a member of a great stable of backs to tote the mail for the Mustangs, who finished the game with 384 rushing yards. Complete release...
Late Touchdown Heroics from Rhodes III gives Texans 38-34 win over Rams
Clifton Rhodes III caught five passes for 103 yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns to help lead the Tarleton State Texans to a 38-34 come-from-behind victory over the Angelo State Rams Saturday night at San Angelo Stadium.
Rhodes' third touchdown catch on the night came with 30 seconds left in the game, which put the Texans on top for good after quarterback Jake Fenske drove the field on nine plays for 78 yards and the 32-yard strike to the junior wide-out.
The Texans started the drive down 34-31 after ASU's Blake Smith pushed his way into the end zone with 1:48 left to play in the game. Tarleton opened the drive on the 22-yard line, but a false start penalty forced the drive to begin at the 17-yard line instead. Complete release...
Texas A&M-Kingsville football team gave the home fans several reasons to be excited on Saturday in the home opener scoring 28 first quarter points and 35 in the first half en route to a 52-32 win over McMurry on IBC Bank Hispanic Heritage Weekend.
The Javelinas (2-0) amassed 577 yards of total offense in the game with 529 on the ground on 61 carries. Greg Pitre led the way with 10 carries for 180 yards and two scores, while Aaron Bueno had 13 for 88. Cornelius Shackelford had 10 for 78 and Marquis Cardinal had 74 yards on three carries.
Much like last week’s game against Monterrey Tech, the Javelinas jumped out to an early lead scoring 28 points in the first quarter. It was the first time since Sept. 12, 2009 against Central Oklahoma that Kingsville scored 28 points in a quarter. Complete release...
