Rams Claim LSC Playoff Championship with 35-33 Win over Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – The Angelo State football withheld a Texas A&M-Commerce comeback by recovering an onside kick with 43 second left to defeat the Lions 35-33 to win the Lone Star Conference Playoffs title.

The Rams (8-2) had control of the game until the Lions (7-3) came storming back with 20 points in the fourth quarter.  Joe Bergeron caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Tyrik Rollison to make it a two-point game at 35-33 with 43 seconds to play.

The ensuing two-point conversion was a pass to deep and the Rams had to face an onside kick. Dakaraki Pecikonis recovered the onside kick to seal the Rams first conference title since the 1987 LSC Championship.

The Rams will now await their fate in the NCAA Division II Playoffs which will be announced tomorrow at 4 p.m. online at NCAA.com.  ASU will host a watch party tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the C.J. Davidson at the Houston-Harte Center.  The public is encouraged to join...Complete Release



Last minute touchdown lifts Tarleton past Midwestern State for third place in LSC Playoffs

WICHITA FALLS – In a reversal of this season's earlier matchup in Stephenville, Tarleton State exacted its revenge over rival Midwestern State with a last-minute touchdown – this time to claim a third-place finish in the LSC Playoffs.
 
Tarleton scored on its first possession after the defense forced a fumble on MSU's opening drive. The Texans took over at the Midwestern 32-yard line and drove the rest of the way, finding pay dirt on a two-yard run from Zach Henshaw.
 
After the Tarleton defense held on fourth down to keep the Mustangs scoreless in the first quarter, the scoring picked up beginning just 16 seconds into the new frame when Jeremy Louis picked up Tarleton's second loose ball of the day and ran it home for a 14-0 Tarleton lead...Complete Release


Greyhounds Edge Buffaloes in Wild Season Finale at Blackwater Draw

BLACKWATER DRAW — The Eastern New Mexico University football team (7-4) registered a 27-point second quarter, before West Texas A&M (6-5) responded with a 21-point third quarter, in Saturday afternoon's Lone Star Conference playoff game at Blackwater Draw. With the Greyhounds facing a three-point deficit, senior wide receiver Bradley Beeston went 62-yards for the first touchdown of his career, to give Eastern the lead for good with just 3:12 left in the game, on the way to a 55-45 victory.
 
After taking the opening kickoff, Eastern went 76 yards on four plays to take the lead on Jeremy Buurma's 21-yard sprint. The possession was highlighted by E'lon Spight's 44-yard run on the second play. The Buffaloes' ensuing drive got jump started, when Jarrian Rhone took a pass from Preston Rabb 56 yards, to the ENMU six-yard line. Stingy Defense Ends @JavelinaFB Season with a Bang

ABILENE, Texas (Football) – In the final game of the 2014 season, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2-9) played its most balanced game, forcing seven turnovers and Trey Mitchell accounted for three touchdowns as the Javelinas defeated McMurry University (2-8), 41-16, on Saturday evening at Wilford Moore Stadium. With the win, the Hogs finish the Lone Star Conference Tournament seventh and the War Hawks place eighth. The win ends an eight-game losing streak for TAMUK.
 
McMurry struggled to hold onto the ball, losing five fumbles and throwing two interceptions and Mitchell finished the playoff contest 16-of-28 for 174 yards and a touchdown and added 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The stifling defense did not allow the War Hawks to enter the red zone and limited MU to 1-of-7 on third-down conversions. Joe Te'o scored two touchdowns on the ground and Jamal Foote and Trevor Moses each forced a fumble. Overall, the Javelinas ran 86 plays and registered 26 first downs...Complete Release
