Three Lone Star Conference women’s soccer standouts were selected for 2018 preseason honors league officials announced Wednesday.
Angelo State’s Trenadey Scott was named Offensive Player of the Year, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Delaney Bunselmeyer earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, and the Lions Caitlin Duty was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Year.
The league’s preseason awards were chosen by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.
Scott, a junior forward from Fort Worth, Texas, earned D2CCA Honorable Mention All-America, LSC Player and Forward of the Year and D2CCA South Central Player of the Year honors last season. She led the LSC in goals (15), points (34) and shots (79).
Bunselmeyer, a senior defender from Denton, Texas, was a D2CCA Second Team All-America selection, the LSC Defensive Player of the Year, and CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2017. She started all 19 matches, playing all but seven minutes of the season, and paced the Lion defense that led the LSC in fewest goals allowed.
Duty, a senior goalkeeper from Crandall, Texas, was a second-team All-LSC and CoSIDA Academic All-District selection last season. She started all 19 matches, playing all 1,770 minutes in goal, and led the LSC in fewest goals allowed (15) and in save percentage (.842) and was second in the conference in shutouts with eight.
The trio of standouts will lead their respective teams onto the pitch in late August as the 2018 season begins. The LSC has seven teams this fall, with each team playing a 12-game conference schedule as part of its regular season slate.
