The Top 25 clash between No. 3 West Texas A&M and No. 21 DBU lived up to the billing as the teams split the weekend matchup in Canyon. Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 17 St. Edward’s swept their weekend conference series while Midwestern State registered a non-conference win on the road. Cameron and Oklahoma Christian split a home-and-home series.

LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Men’s Basketball Championship is set for March 2-5-6, 2021, with quarterfinal games on campus sites on Tuesday, March 2. The four winning teams will advance to the final site at the highest remaining seed to play semifinal games on Friday, March 5, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 6. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the recently announced
basketball point rating system. The divisional champions will automatically qualify for the tournament and be seeded according to the point rating system. All teams must play a minimum of 11 games to qualify for the conference tournament.

Chandler Jacobs averaged 23.0 points per game in two games at No. 3 West Texas A&M and helped lift the No. 21 Patriots to a dramatic comeback win on Saturday with his second double-double of the year, scoring a team-best 24 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds. Trailing by as many as 22 points, Jacobs helped to ignite a come-from-behind win that snapped WT’s nation-leading 45-game home win streak. In the win, Jacobs connected on 10-of-15 shots from the field and went 3-of-6 from three-point range. For the week, Jacobs averaged a double-double and while shooting 62 percent from the floor, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc, and pulling down 10 rebounds per game.

Qua Grant, West Texas A&M, JR, Sports and Exercise Science, G, Waxahachie, Texas, Waxahachie HS
Qua Grant continued to fill the stat sheet for the Buffs as he averaged 18.3 points and nine rebounds in three games including his first career-triple double. The Waxahachie native became just the second Division II men’s basketball player this season to record a triple-double with his 17-point, 10-rebound and 10-assist performance against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday. He followed that up with 13 points and six rebounds in Friday’s 84-71 win over No. 21 DBU where the Buffs held the Patriots to a season-low in points and three 3-pointers. Grant finished the weekend with his second double-double of the season, 25 points, 11 rebounds in Saturday’s loss to DBU.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Brock Schreiner, Cameron, has stepped up his game to start the 2020-21 season and it continued this past week against Oklahoma Christian. The junior guard averaged 26 points and three assists while shooting 47 percent from the field over the two-game series. In the road win at OC, Schreiner tied a career-high with 31 points on 10-18 shooting. He even extended his streak of consecutive made free throws, which was at 27 dating back to the end of last season. He followed that up with 21 points at home two days later. Schreiner also made eight three-pointers over the series and finished the week 8-9 from the foul line.
Elijah Elliott, Oklahoma Christian, played every minute of both games for the shorthanded Eagles, leading them to a split against Cameron. He led OC with 23 points, four assists and three steals in an 88-84 loss at home on Thursday. Two days later at Cameron, he poured in a season-high 26 points to go with four steals and three assists. He drove the length of the court in the final 5.6 seconds of overtime and twisted between two defenders for the game-winning layup as time expired in OC’s 75-73 win. During the two games, he missed only one of his 12 free throws.
Terrell Wilson, Midwestern State, celebrated his 21st birthday by scoring 21 points in Midwestern State's 93-70 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center. The 5-11 sophomore guard drilled a season-high four 3-pointers while going 8-of-13 from the field. His efforts helped the Mustangs match a program single-game record with 19 made triples while improving to 6-1 on the season.
Joel Murray, West Texas A&M, continues to be one of the top players in the conference as the junior averaged 18.3 points and six assists in three games last week. After his six-point outing against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, the junior scored a game-high 26 points against No. 21 DBU on Friday followed by a 23-point, seven assist performance against the Patriots on Saturday.
B.J. Maxwell, St. Edward's, led the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 weekend against UT Tyler and continues to be a bright spot offensively for the Hilltoppers, averaging 17.5 points per game in just 24 minutes per game. Maxwell hit 52.2 percent of his shots from the floor and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Tre Flowers, Texas A&M-Kingsville, helped lift the Javelinas to consecutive wins over UT Permian Basin and stretch TAMUK's win streak to five with a pair of double-digit performances. In a 73-62 victory on Friday, he posted a season-high 17 points, including six second-half free throws that helped secure the win, and added a pair of assists. One day later, as the Hogs cruised, 82-64, Flowers shot 5-of-8 from the field, including three-of-five on three-pointers, and pulled down three rebounds. For the week, the kid from Bryan shot 6-of-13 from behind the arc, averaged 15.5 points per game and totaled three assists.
Creighton Avery, Texas A&M-Kingsville, helped limit UT Permian Basin to their two lowest scoring outputs of the season so far thanks to a 42.3 percent opponent field goal percentage. In a 73-62 win on Friday, Avery established a new career-high with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, handed out a team-high three assists and grabbed three steals. He came back with nine more points the next day, tied for a game-best with four assists while pilfering his fourth steal of the weekend. Avery averaged 16.5 points per game for the week while helping lead a TAMUK defense that is currently allowing the fewest points in the LSC.
Logan Cook, St. Edward’s, has embraced his role on the court for the Hilltoppers and continues to excel, grabbing double-digit rebounds in both games for SEU in a 2-0 weekend against UT Tyler. He added a team-high three blocks with five assists during the week. Cook also averaged 8.5 points per game and came away with a trio of steals.
