St. Edward’s picked up a pair of conference wins while Midwestern State and Texas A&M International each recorded a non-conference victory during the last week. The Hilltoppers earned division wins against UT Tyler while the Mustangs toppled previously unbeaten Texas A&M-Commerce and TAMIU defeated Kentucky State. UT Permian Basin and Texas A&M-Kingsville split their weekend series in Kingsville.

LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Women’s Basketball Championship is set for March 2-5-6, 2021, with quarterfinal games on campus sites on Tuesday, March 2. The four winning teams will advance to the final site at the highest remaining seed to play semifinal games on Friday, March 5, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 6. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the recently announced
basketball point rating system. The divisional champions will automatically qualify for the tournament and be seeded according to the point rating system. All teams must play a minimum of 11 games to qualify for the conference tournament.

Brooklin Bain made her first two collegiate starts against Cameron and averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Eagles. In the game at home on Thursday, she was the Eagles' second-leading scorer, finishing with 15 points (on 6-of-8 shooting) and six rebounds in a 70-67 loss to the Aggies that went down to the final play. Two days later in Lawton, Bain led an OC squad with only seven available players to a 53-47 win with 24 points and 15 rebounds (the third-highest single-game total this season by a Lone Star Conference player). While playing 38 minutes and 50 seconds, she went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line, including 4 of 4 in the final 40.5 seconds to help seal the win. Her 24 points were the most by an OC freshman since Katie Mayo scored 28 in a win over Texas A&M International on Jan. 11, 2018.

Haevyn Risley played a central role to help Midwestern State overcome a 15-point, second-half deficit to beat previously undefeated Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The 5-10 forward from Canadian made three steals and snagged four rebounds playing with four fouls in the fourth period as MSU limited the Lions to 2-of-15 from the field. The Mustangs held the Lions without a field goal over the final 5:48 while mounting a 17-2 run to surge to an 85-82 victory. Risley finished with five points, six rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Morgan Lenahan, Midwestern State, tallied 14 of her team-high 21 points in the second half to lead the Mustangs to an 85-82 win over No. 9-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The senior guard from Haddonfield, N.J. connected on 8-of-17 shots with a 3-pointer while grabbing a season-high seven rebounds against the Lions. Lenahan surged to seventh in the Lone Star Conference at 14.4 points per game.
Brianna Pena, Texas A&M-Kingsville, kept her torrid pace to start the season over the weekend with her fifth and sixth straight game scoring in double figures for the Javelinas. She put away 16 points and six assists in Friday's matchup against UTPB and added 17 points in Saturday's action to push her season average to 16.0 points per game which ranks fifth in the LSC.
Nicole Heyn, Texas A&M International, continued her top-level play for the Dustdevils in their 69-51 win over Kentucky State on Sunday. In the only game of the week for the Dustdevils, Heyn led the way with her second double-double of the season and came close to a triple-double. She scored 16 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor (5-10), 40 percent from three-point (2-5) and a solid 80 percent (4-5) from the free-throw line. Heyn added 11 rebounds to go along with a career-high six assists, three steals and a block.
Charli Becker, St. Edward’s, was the main offensive threat for the Hilltoppers, shooting 50 percent from the floor as SEU got its first two wins of the season. She averaged 12 points per game while playing just 23.5 minutes per game and hit 8-of-16 shots from the floor.
Jazmine Jackson, St. Edward's, helped the Hilltoppers dominate the defensive end as they secured their first two wins of the season. Jackson was the leading rebounder for SEU and added four blocks in the two games while the Hilltoppers held UT Tyler to just 23.6 percent shooting from the field and 36.0 points per game.
Clara Fernandez, Texas A&M International, was a driving force defensively for the Dustdevils in their 69-51 win over Kentucky State. In the lone game of the week for TAMIU, she secured nine rebounds (1 offensive, 8 defensive) along with three steals and a career-high three blocks while holding the Thorobreds to 32.8% shooting from the field and 18.2% from three. Fernandez also scored 15 points to help the Dustdevils offensively.
Maighan Hedge, Cameron, led the Aggies in their defensive efforts and went 2-1 last week. The Melbourne, Australia native averaged 15.3 points on the offensive end, but it was her defense on the perimeter and work on the glass that was big for CU. Hedge notched two steals and six rebounds in each of CU’s wins and then followed that up with four boards and one steal in the loss against OC. She aided the CU defense two a 58.7 scoring defense average, a .402 field goal defense, and a .263 three-point field goal defense for the week.
