Four Lone Star Conference men’s basketball programs went undefeated to start the new year as Angelo State, No. 25 DBU, Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M-Kingsville all picked up two wins. Midwestern State earned a series split at home against No. 9 St. Edward’s, and St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Commerce split their two games in Commerce.

LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Men’s Basketball Championship is set for March 2-5-6, 2021, with quarterfinal games on campus sites on Tuesday, March 2. The four winning teams will advance to the final site at the highest remaining seed to play semifinal games on Friday, March 5, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 6. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the recently announced
basketball point rating system. The divisional champions will automatically qualify for the tournament and be seeded according to the point rating system. All teams must play a minimum of 11 games to qualify for the conference tournament.

B.J. Maxwell put together the top scoring performance in Division II this season in the No. 9 Hilltoppers’ second game against Midwestern State last week scoring 47 points on 19-of-32 shooting from the floor in a 112-105 win. Maxwell hit 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe on his way to recording the second-highest single-game scoring mark in SEU history and breaking the D.L Ligon Coliseum collegiate scoring record. The senior added eight rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in the win. Maxwell averaged 32 points per game hitting 53.3 percent (24-of-45) during the week.

Chandler Jacobs, DBU, SR, Accounting, G, Missouri City, Texas, Elkins HS
Chandler Jacobs helped lead the No. 25 Patriots to a pair of wins over Cameron to start the new year. Jacobs' defensive effort helped hold the Aggies to just 35.8 percent shooting from the field over two games and the senior guard totaled eight steals and 13 rebounds on the defensive end. In Monday's win at Cameron, Jacobs spearheaded a DBU defense that held Cameron to season-lows in points (62) and field goal percentage (32.3) while forcing a season-high 25 turnovers. Jacobs also averaged 20.0 points per game in the wins.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Ricky Lujan, DBU, averaged 26.0 ppg in the Patriots' two wins over Cameron. On Saturday, Lujan scored a game-high 31 points, marking the third-highest point total by a freshman in school history. Down by one point at the half, Lujan registered the first 10 points of the second half to spearhead DBU's comeback win. Lujan finished the game with seven made three-pointers and shot 69 percent from the field. On Monday, Lujan poured in a 21-point performance, going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. For the week, Lujan totaled a team-high 52 points on 62 percent shooting.
Jordan Horn, UT Permian Basin, continues to pace the Falcon offense with back-to-back games leading the team in scoring. The senior led the team on Saturday with 19 points, to tie the program record for most consecutive wins to open the season. He followed it on Sunday with a 29-point outburst, including 23 in the second half. Over the weekend, Horn was a perfect 11-for-11 from the charity stripe and pushed his overall scoring average to 22.9 points per game.
Chris Rollins, UAFS, led the Lions in scoring in both games last week scoring 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor while pulling down 7 rebounds in a narrow loss to UT Permian Basin on the road. Rollins then churned out 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe in the Lions’ first win of the season.
Sam Moore, Angelo State, led the Rams to victory over Oklahoma Christian in game two with a team-high 19 points to finish 2-0 against the Eagles. Tallied 15 points in the Rams' first win over OC. Moore has totaled double-digit points in his last four games including his season-high of 19.
Rowan Mackenzie, Lubbock Christian, reached double-figures in a pair of Lubbock Christian road wins over UT Tyler, tying for the team lead in scoring average with 17.0 points per game. He shot an efficient 72.2 percent from the field, doing all of his scoring from inside the three-point line or at the charity stripe, where he was 8-for-9. The Australia native also pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game, including a double-double in Saturday's win, when he scored 22 points and grabbed 10 boards.
Creighton Avery, Texas A&M-Kingsville, put together two double-digit scoring performances to help the Javelinas earn a pair of wins over Texas A&M International and improve to 5-1. In a 62-49 victory on Saturday, Avery shot 9-of-12 from the floor and piled up a career-high 22 points, 20 of which came in the second half. During one stretch, the Corpus native scored 11 straight points for the Javs and he also ended the day with a team-high three assists. Two days later, Avery hit all three of his shots from the floor, finished with 10 points, three more dimes and two steals as the Hogs cruised past the Dustdevils, 84-46. For the week Avery posted an 80.0 shooting percentage, averaged 16.0 points per game and a team-best six assists.
Anthony Scott, Texas A&M International, was a bright spot for the Dustdevils on the defensive side of the ball in both games against Texas A&M-Kingsville. In the series opener, he came up with three steals and followed that up with four steals and three rebounds in the second game.
Quinntez Grimes, UT Permian Basin, was a menace in the paint over the weekend for the Falcons. The freshman recorded seven of the team's 11 blocked shots, including four in Saturday's victory over UAFS. For the year the Dallas native now leads the LSC in total blocks with nine.
Logan Cook, St. Edward’s, rose to the challenge of battling the Mustangs on the glass was the leading rebounder for SEU in both games during a 1-1 weekend for the Hilltoppers. Cook added four steals and two blocks
Parker Hicks, Lubbock Christian, was LCU's leading defensive rebounder and a presence inside as the Chaps limited UT Tyler to 63.0 points per game and just 42.3 percent shooting in a pair of LCU wins this past weekend. He pulled down 13 total rebounds, including 11 on the defensive glass, adding in a blocked shot and a steal as well. He also averaged 17.0 points per game and was the Chaps' leading three-point shooter.
Marcus Jones, Texas A&M-Kingsville, helped lead the charge for a Javelina defense that held the Texas A&M International Dustdevils to 32.7 percent shooting in two games and a scoring average under 50 points. In a 62-49 TAMUK win on Saturday, Jones put up nine points, grabbed six rebounds and added a blocked shot and a steal as part of a defensive effort that forced 18 turnovers. When the teams met again on Monday, the Hogs kept TAMIU's shooting percentage under 30 percent and set a season-high with five blocked shots, two of them coming from Jones. The freshman guard also added six rebounds and four points, helping his team come out on top, 84-46.
