LSC Men's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 5

Five Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball teams completed undefeated weeks, as No. 1 Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Tyler all remained perfect on the season. Midwestern State and UT Permian Basin also turned in flawless weeks as the Mustangs went 1-0, and the Falcons picked up a pair of wins. St. Edward’s split a pair of games that included a win over No. 18 Angelo State.
 
    LSC men’s basketball teams are 93-46 overall and 20-12 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other conference in the South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
DaJuan Jones, UT Permian Basin, SR, Business, G, Killeen, Texas, Ellison HS
Jones continues to be one of the best point guards in Division II, racking up 21 more assists last week as the Falcons picked up a pair of victories.  On Thursday, he picked up his third double-double of the year as the Falcons cruised to a win over St. Edward's with 16 points and 12 assists. He came up just shy of another double-double on Saturday with 12 points and nine assists.  The senior is currently second in the nation in assists (75) and assists per game (8.3) and leads the LSC in assists by 30.
 
DEFENSIVE
Clashon Gaffney, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Learning and Technology, C, Clarksville, Texas, Clarksville HS
Gaffney blocked 13 shots in the three wins last week for the Lions. He had five against Harding to open the week and tied the school record with seven against Oklahoma Christian in a two-point win for the Lions. Gaffney also averaged 11 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in the three games. Gaffney leads the conference with 4.5 blocks per game, almost two blocks per game better than any other player in the LSC.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
    Lloyd Daniels, Lubbock Christian, had a hot-shooting week as the Chaps posted two dominant wins against Oklahoma City and Western New Mexico. He was incredibly efficient from the floor, hitting 72.2 percent of his attempts, including a 5-or-10 showing from behind the arc. On Monday against the Stars, he had 20 points and 11 assists, becoming the first Chap with a points and assists double-double since Marcus Arrington did it on Nov. 21, 2015. Saturday's game saw a balanced 14 points, three rebounds and four assists from the senior as LCU ran away in the first half.
 
    Daniel Venzant, St. Edward's, led every statistical category offensively for the Hilltoppers as they went 1-1 this week, including a win over No. 18 Angelo State. He averaged 16 points per game and posted seven assists and six steals.
 
    Augustine Ene, Texas A&M-Commerce, led the Lions in scoring in the three wins this past week. He averaged 13 points in the three games. His best game came at DBU when he scored 17 points in the two-point victory. The Lions are off to a 6-0 start, having defeated two LSC teams thus far.
    
    Logan Cook, St. Edward's, nearly averaged a double-double on the week, averaging 9.5 points and 12.5 boards as the Hilltoppers went 1-1, including a win over No. 18 Angelo State. He also added in five assists, second on the team, and one steal.
 
    Parker Hicks, Lubbock Christian, led the LCU defense to another strong week as they held Oklahoma City to 48 points and Western New Mexico to only 55. The two opponents combined to shoot only 34.8 percent as the Chaps went 2-0 on the week. Hicks led the team with 15 total rebounds, 13 of which came on the defensive glass, and contributed four steals. He also averaged 16.0 points per game on 70.6 percent shooting himself.
