LSC Women's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 7

Five Lone Star Conference women’s basketball teams went undefeated last week with West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville, St. Mary’s and Lubbock Christian all finishing the week unblemished. Texas Woman’s and UT Permian Basin and UAFS and Oklahoma Christian split their weekend sets.

LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Women’s Basketball Championship is set for March 2-5-6, 2021, with quarterfinal games on campus sites on Tuesday, March 2. The four winning teams will advance to the final site at the highest remaining seed to play semifinal games on Friday, March 5, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 6. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the recently announced basketball point rating system. The divisional champions will automatically qualify for the tournament and be seeded according to the point rating system. All teams must play a minimum of 11 games to qualify for the conference tournament.

OFFENSIVE
Dyani Robinson, Texas A&M-Commerce, SO, Criminal Justice, G, Cypress, Texas, Langham Creek HS
Dyani Robinson led the Lions in scoring in a pair of road wins at Angelo State for a weekend sweep with 21.5 points per game. In the Saturday game, she scored 21 points with five rebounds and two assists, and on Sunday she scored 22 points with six rebounds and three assists. She has scored over 20 points in four of six games played this season.
 
DEFENSIVE
Hannah Wilson, St. Mary's, SR, Mechanical Engineering, F, Fredericksburg, Texas, Fredericksburg HS
Hannah Wilson led the Rattlers to a pair of wins and recorded a double-double in each of the games against UT Tyler, with 12 points and 14 rebounds on the road on Wednesday and 12 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday in San Antonio. Wilson also blocked four shots on the week and she and the rest of the team held the Patriots to just 28.8 percent from the floor. The senior averaged 12.5 rebounds per game during the week and now has four double-doubles on the year and 22 for her career.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
      Allie Schulte, Lubbock Christian, the senior guard had 20 points, which helped her surpass 1,000 career points as a member of the Lady Chaps, and Lubbock Christian used a strong second half surge to defeat Midwestern State 84-54 in a West Division meeting in the Lone Star Conference. She was 8-of-13 from the field and also had six assists to go along with her six steals and 20 points. Schulte also added a career-high six steals.
 
      Brooklin Bain, Oklahoma Christian, continued the blazing hot start to her collegiate career, posting her third double-double in only eight games and hitting a game-winning shot while averaging 18.3 points and 8.7 rebounds over three games for OC. She hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 43 seconds left to cap a 19-point outing in a 72-68 win on Thursday at UAFS, OC’s first win in Fort Smith, Ark. since 2013 and the Lady Eagles’ fourth road win of the season. In a 71-65 loss to the Lions on Saturday, she led all scorers with a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 11 points and seven rebounds in a loss at Texas Woman’s on Tuesday.
 
      Mia Cherry, Texas A&M-Kingsville, led the Javelinas off the bench in both games this past weekend as TAMUK swept Cameron in LSC play. She fired off 16 points in Friday's 77-71 victory on a 5-for-14 rate from the field and 3-for-9 clip from the three-point line while tossing in four assists in the contest. She added a season-high 20 points while shooting 7-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc in Saturday's 78-70 triumph along with five assists and four rebounds. It is the third consecutive game Cherry made at least three shots from long range as she pushed her season scoring average back into double digits.
 
      Sawyer Lloyd, Angelo State, continues to be an offensive force for the Belles, scoring 34 points against the No. 18 ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Lions. Lloyd shot .461 from the field, .428 from beyond the three-point line, and .800 from the free throw line. She currently ranks sixth in the conference in field goals, averaging 14.9 a game. Registering 11 rebounds against the Lions, Lloyd grabbed one offensive and 10 defensive rebounds, along with eight assists and two steals for the Belles.
 
      Jordan Jenkins, Texas Woman’s, returned to the TWU lineup and was consistent in TWU's split at UT Permian Basin, tying her career-high with 17 points in the win. Jenkins averaged 16 points per game during the week and hit 12-of-13 from the charity stripe while adding four assists.
 
      Lexy Hightower, West Texas A&M, continued to power the West Texas A&M offense this past week as the senior led the Lady Buffs to a pair of Lone Star Conference crossover makeup wins over St. Edward's at the First United Bank Center to run WT's win streak to eight games. The Amarillo product went 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the floor including a perfect 2-of-2 from behind the arc to average 12.5 points per game to go along with six rebounds, six assists, one block and four steals in the pair of wins. Hightower has now scored at least 20 points in seven of WT's 11 games so far this season, surpassing the 20-point plateau 25 times during her career. The senior also passed Carlee Massie for second place on WT's all-time list of made three-pointers with 215.
 
      Braylyn Dollar, West Texas A&M, was dominant on the defensive end of the floor this past week as the junior helped the Lady Buffs to a pair of wins over St. Edward's at the First United Bank Center in Canyon to run WT's win streak to eight games. The Lubbock Monterey product went 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the floor including 1-of-3 (33.3 percent) from behind the arc and 3-of-4 (75 percent) from the charity stripe with 13 total rebounds (three offensive, 10 defensive), four assists and a steal. The Lady Buffs held the Hilltoppers to a shooting percentage of just 27.9% while allowing an average of 40.0 points per contest in the pair of wins.
 
      Emma Middleton, Lubbock Christian, helped LCU to a 1-0 week, which involved an 84-54 home win over Midwestern State. Middleton was a +32 in plus/minus, with 14 points, three blocks and two steals. She completed the numbers in 22 minutes of work.
 
      Ma'K'La Woods, Texas Woman’s, Grabbed 14 rebounds in TWU's win over Oklahoma Christian as part of a double-double that included 13 points. She added one block in the same contest. Woods also grabbed nine boards in the opening game against UTPB and followed up with seven boards, one block, and one steal in the finale against the Falcons.
 
      Paige Elston, UAFS, recorded five steals at home against Oklahoma Christian and helped lead a defense that held the Lady Eagles to just 42 percent from the floor over two games.
 
      DesiRay Kernal, Texas A&M-Commerce, was the Lions' defensive leader in a pair of wins at Angelo State, with key steals and rebounding. She had 13 points and nine rebounds in each of the two games. Both games came down to the wire, and she had three steals in the Sunday contest.
 
      Janessa Payne, Texas A&M-Kingsville, paced the Javelinas in all aspects of the game this weekend for a sweep of Cameron in LSC play. She started game one with nine points and 11 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent from both the floor and from beyond the arc along with one pickpocket as her help on the defensive half held the Aggies to 37.3 percent shooting in the 77-71 win on Friday. She followed that performance up with 16 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's 78-70 victory on a blistering 83.3 percent shooting clip from the field and 80.0 percent from long range as CU was held to just 35.0 percent shooting from the floor, moving her weekend averages to 12.5 points and 10 rebounds. Saturday's defensive effort was the fourth time this year the Javelinas held their opponents below 35.0 percent shooting in a game.
 
     Madeline Stephens, Angelo State, continues to run the Belles defense, grabbing 16 rebounds against the Lions this past week, four on offense and 12 on defense. Stephens is currently ranked second in the conference, averaging 9.4 rebounds a game. Scoring 39 points against the Lions, Stephens shot 60.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the free throw line, along with grabbing a season-high five assists, a season-high four steals, and three blocks.
