Four Lone Star Conference women’s basketball teams went undefeated last week with No. 8 West Texas A&M, No. 10 Texas A&M-Commerce, Cameron and St. Edward’s all picking up series sweeps. Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian split their two-game set in Oklahoma City.

LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Women’s Basketball Championship is set for March 2-5-6, 2021, with quarterfinal games on campus sites on Tuesday, March 2. The four winning teams will advance to the final site at the highest remaining seed to play semifinal games on Friday, March 5, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 6. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament based on the
basketball point rating system. The divisional champions will automatically qualify for the tournament and be seeded according to the point rating system. All teams must play a minimum of 11 games to qualify for the conference tournament.

DesiRay Kernal was a dominant offensive presence for the No. 10 Lions in their divisional sweep of Texas Woman's. In the Thursday win, she had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, including seven boards on the offensive glass. She shot 5-of-9 from the floor, 7-of-8 at the free throw line and hit 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. In Saturday’s win on the road, she scored 19 points with 10 made free throws hitting 57.1 percent of her shots.

Juliana Louis was the Lions' top defensive star in an impressive divisional sweep of Texas Woman's, where TAMUC limited the Pioneers to 51.5 points per game. The Lions held TWU to four points in the first quarter of both games and averaged a +20 rebounding margin. Louis had 11 points and eight rebounds in the Thursday win, then had six points, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in the Saturday win. The Lions lead the league in rebounding at 42.4 boards per game and rank second in the conference with 11.82 steals per game.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Maighan Hedge, Cameron, continued to lead the Aggies in all facets of the game as Cameron went 3-0 this week. The junior guard averaged 17.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.0 steals over the week’s three games. She opened the stretch with her best performance, a 25-point outburst against UT Permian Basin. Hedge was 10-19 from the field and added five assists and two steals against the Falcons; it was the fourth time this season and 27th of her career that she eclipsed 20 points in a game. She capped the week with a 17-point, six assist game against UT Tyler, a game in which she made four three-pointers, a feat she has accomplished three times this season.
Brooklin Bain, Oklahoma Christian, recorded her fourth and fifth double-doubles of her 11-game collegiate career and added a third double-digit rebounding game for Oklahoma Christian. In a 61-58 loss to Oklahoma Baptist on Monday, she grabbed 11 boards. On Friday, in a 67-60 loss to Midwestern State, he had 16 points and 10 rebounds. The next day, in OC’s 65-49 romp over Midwestern State, she matched her career high with 25 points (on 9-of-13 shooting) and set a career high with 17 rebounds, the third-highest single-game total this season by a LSC player. She increased her season averages to 15.4 and 9.3, respectively. She ranks third in rebounding and fifth in scoring in the LSC this season.
Lexy Hightower, West Texas A&M, continued to power the Lady Buff offense this past week as the senior led WT to a pair of wins over Angelo State to run her team’s winning streak to 10 games. The Amarillo High product went 9-of-20 from the floor including 6-of-12 from deep and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe with seven rebounds, nine assists, one block and six steals on the week. Hightower registered a pair of 15-point performances against ASU as she leads the LSC in scoring this season with 17.9 points per game. Hightower has now scored double-digit points in 11 of WT's 13 games so far this season.
Madeline Stephens, Angelo State, made a big impact on offense for Angelo State, scoring 45 points against their opponents in the three games played last week. Shooting .471 from the field, .417 from beyond the arc, .889 from the free throw line, Stephens averaged 15.0 points per game, registered four assists and three steals for the Belles. Defensively, Stephens grabbed 22 rebounds for ASU, five offensive and 17 defensive, and averaged 7.3 boards per contest.
Charli Becker, St. Edward’s, led SEU to a pair of crucial wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville last week, leading the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals. She also posted a double-double on the road, recording 15 points and 10 rebounds to close out the week.
Maddison Collyer Ingraham, Oklahoma Christian, exploded for 13 for Oklahoma Christian as the Lady Eagles lost to Oklahoma Baptist, then split a pair of games with Midwestern State. In a 61-58 loss to OBU, she had six swipes, just one off her career high, to go with seven points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a stat-stuffing performance. She had three steals and two blocked shots (matching her career high) and nine points Friday in a 67-60 loss to Midwestern State. On Saturday, OC beat the Mustangs 65-49 and she played a huge role, recording her fifth career double-double (13 points, 11 assists) to go with her four steals, while helping lead a defense that limited Midwestern State to just 1-of-20 shooting (5 percent) from 3-point range and 29.4 percent overall. Along the way, she moved into fifth place on OC’s career assists list.
Kiara Lovings, Cameron, put the clamps down on their opponents, leading to three straight wins last week. The junior guard started things off with a six-steal performance against UT Permian Basin, a game in which she also had four rebounds, a block, and 17 points. Later in the week, Lovings added 12 points in game one against UT Tyler and then added two more steals, seven points, and five boards in the series finale. The Harrah, Okla. native helped CU hold their opponents to just 54.7 points per game and a .180 three-point percentage while also averaging 14.7 steals over the three-game span.
Sawyer Lloyd, Angelo State, led the Belles defensively against their opponents this past week, registering six steals, one block while grabbing nine defensive boards for ASU, holding their opponents to shooting .458 from the field. Lloyd shot .341 from the field, .333 from beyond the arc, 1.00 from the free throw line to score 38 points and registered 16 assists for ASU to average 5.3 assists per game.
