LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 7

The 12-team bracket for the Spring 2021 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship is set with the top three in each division competing.  The opening round is set for March 23, followed by the quarterfinals on March 24, semifinals on March 30 and championship match on March 31.
      The four divisional winners - Angelo State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UAFS and UT Tyler – will each receive a bye and host the first round and quarterfinal matchups.
      The opening round contests on March 23 include North No. 2 seed Midwestern State and Central No. 3 DBU in San Angelo, Texas; Central No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce versus North No. 3 Oklahoma Christian in Kingsville, Texas; South No. 2 St. Edward’s and West No. 3 UT Permian Basin in Fort Smith, Arkansas; and West No. 2 West Texas A&M versus South No. 3 Texas A&M International in Tyler, Texas.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Sydney Andersen, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Accounting, OH, Placentia, Calif., El Dorado HS
Andersen led the Lion offense in a pair of sweeps of Texas Woman's with 24 kills for an average of  4.00 kills per set. She did this while hitting an efficient .258 on the outside. She was also perfect in serve receive and had two blocks on the week.
 
DEFENSIVE
Riley Davidson, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Marketing, OH, Commerce, Texas, Commerce HS
Outside hitter Riley Davidson let a stellar Lion defense with 6.3 digs per set on the way to a pair of sweeps over Texas Woman's. This included an LSC-high of 85 team digs in a three-set match on Tuesday. The senior also had 0 reception errors out of 52 serve receive chances. She also chipped in for five blocks (.83 blocks per set), three aces, and six kills.
 
SETTER
Emily Witt, Texas A&M-Kingsville, JR, Psychology, Setter, Rose Hill, Kan., Rose Hill
Witt led all players in assists and digs while helping the Javelinas defeat St. Mary's to complete the first undefeated regular season in program history. She handed out 42 assists to help set up a Javelina offense that hit .260 on the afternoon and she also logged a season-high 24 digs. Witt has recorded a double-double in every match she's played in 2021.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
   Alanni Carter, Cameron, led the attack in the two matches against a tough UAFS team to close out the regular season like she has all season. The Los Angeles, Calif. native had 10 kills and eight digs in the week opener on Tuesday and then followed that up with 14 kills, eight in the first two sets, and 13 digs in the season finale on Wednesday night. Carter also hit .196 in the four-set match while adding a pair of assists and a block, one of her two on the week.
   Ayanna Jackson, Texas A&M-Kingsville, hit .423 for the Javelinas, committing only one error on 26 attacks as TAMUK topped St. Mary's to complete a perfect regular season for the first time in school history. She finished the match with 12 kills and three total blocks as the Javs won in four sets. Jackson is currently in the top 10 in the LSC in blocks per set, kills per set and hitting percentage.
   Hannah Holland, UAFS, hit a sparkling .486 over the two matches with 18 total kills, including 12 kills on a .462 attack percentage in a four-set win Wednesday. In that match, Holland also totaled seven blocks. In a sweep Tuesday over Cameron, Holland totaled six kills on a .556 attack percentage to go with four aces as the Lady Lions clinched the LSC divisional title.
   Courtney Crownover, UAFS, recorded her first career triple-double in a sweep of Cameron Tuesday, registering 11 kills, 14 assists and 15 digs. She posted a double-double Wednesday in a four-set with with 27 assists, 13 digs and eight kills. UAFS held Cameron to a .140 attack percentage over both matches, as Crownover led the team with 4.0 digs per set. She also added three blocks.
   Kailey Estrada, Texas A&M-Kingsville, racked up 12 kills at a .478 hitting percentage and also contributed four blocks as the Javelinas topped St. Mary's to complete the first undefeated regular season in program history. She helped lead a Javelina defense that collected eight total blocks and also limited the Rattlers to a .164 hitting percentage. For the season, Estrada ranks third in the conference in hitting percentage and 11th in blocks per set.
   Katie Roberson, Cameron, had one of her best weeks of her young career against one of the top seeds in the LSC Tournament UAFS during the final week of the regular season. Forced into the lone setter role, the freshman recorded back-to-back double-doubles with 24 assists and 10 digs in match one and a career-best 35 assists with 12 digs in the second match. Roberson also added 5.0 total blocks, two aces, and a kill during the two-match span.
   Aislynn Shore, Texas A&M-Commerce, helped push a Lions' offense which earned a pair of sweeps over Texas Woman's and had 106 kills on the week, which was good for 17.7 kills a set. The offense earned 53 kills each night which was a high for the LSC this season in a three-set match. She also earned the first two double-doubles of her career with 25 assists and 16 digs on Tuesday, and 21 assists and 10 digs on Wednesday. She averaged 7.67 assists per set and 4.33 digs per set for the week.
   Taylor Lintz, UAFS, recorded a career-high 27 assists in a four-set win over Cameron Wednesday. She also tallied 20 assists in a sweep Tuesday, which clinched the LSC divisional title for the Lady Lions. Lintz added 16 digs over the two matches, as well.
