Four Lone Star Conference men’s soccer teams earned undefeated weeks heading into the final week before the postseason tournament. UT Tyler’s upset win over No. 16 St. Mary’s earned them a perfect 1-0 week. West Texas A&M’s two conference wins earned them the league regular-season title as the Buffs earned the right to host the men’s soccer championship beginning on April 10. Midwestern State and DBU also completed the last seven days undefeated.
LSC teams are competing in an eight-game single round-robin schedule with one game against each conference opponent. The LSC Men’s Soccer Championship will include the top four teams based on conference points. The tournament will begin with semifinal matches on Saturday, April 10, and conclude with the championship match on Monday, April 12.

OFFENSIVE

Mere Escobar pushed Midwestern State to its 4-0 win at UT Permian Basin with a hat trick in his 59 minutes of action. The freshman scored all three of his goals in the second half striking in the 57th minute, 68th minute, and 89th minute to earn the first hat trick in the LSC this season. He recorded six total shots with five going on goal for a 0.833 shot on goal percent against the Falcons. The forward reached season-highs in shots, shots on goal, goals, points, and minutes in Tuesday's match.

Callum Doyle led a defense that only allowed one goal over the course of two matches as opponents were only able to get 13 shots off compared to WT's 43 with only 10 landing on target. Over 180 minutes played, the senior defender recorded the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian while earning the assist on Keaton Hartman's goal to open the match.

Mathias Eriksen shutout No. 16 St. Mary's to lead UT Tyler to an upset 1-0 win over the Rattlers despite facing a total of 17 shots throughout the match. Six of those 17 efforts were on target for St. Mary's and Eriksen stopped all six attempts to finish with six saves for the evening. The Rattlers were most aggressive in the first half, totaling five attempts on goal. The Vejle, Denmark native answered his one challenge in the second half and earned the win on a St. Mary's own-goal in the 33rd minute. He has now recorded three clean sheets in his last four starts.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Emmanuel Loni, DBU, helped lift the Patriots to a win over Lubbock Christian with a four-point performance and also played a key role in DBU's 0-0 tie at Oklahoma Christian. In the Patriots' victory over the Chaps, Loni delivered an assist on each of DBU's first two goals and scored the game-winning goal on a header with 9:20 remaining in the match.
Giancarlo Saldana, West Texas A&M, registered his third brace of the season as he recorded his two goals in the Buffs 3-0 shutout over Oklahoma Christian where he had a season-high eight shots. The junior now stands second in the conference leader boards with seven goals this season while leading the league with three game-winners.
Thierry Assamoi, UT Tyler, captained a UT Tyler backline that kept #16 St. Mary's off the board despite 17 total shot attempts for the Rattlers. Assamoi also had a key part in setting up UT Tyler for the game-winning own goal on St. Mary's by providing the initial clearance to set the Patriots up on the counterattack. Assamoi's work on the defensive backline secured UT Tyler a must-win 1-0 victory over the Rattlers and pushed the Patriots into a tie for fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.
Kyle Renton, DBU, led the Patriots to a 1-0-1 mark with a win over Lubbock Christian and a 0-0 tie in double overtime versus Oklahoma Christian. Renton played all 110 minutes in the net at Oklahoma Christian on March 27 recording his first career shutout while making a season-high nine saves. Three days later, Renton made three key saves to help preserve a 3-2 win at home over Lubbock Christian.
Alexander Vencel, West Texas A&M, led the Buffs to a regular season championship title after earning two victories in the post to move the Buffs to 6-1. The senior keeper allowed just one goal and registered nine saves on 13 shots faced for a .51 goals-against average. He had a season-high six saves in the 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian.
