LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 7

Five Lone Star Conference teams – DBU, Oklahoma Christian, St. Mary's, UAFS, and West Texas A&M – were unbeaten last week.  WT leads the standings at 8-0 in LSC action and 15-4 overall.

      LSC contests continue this week.

      LSC volleyball teams are 171-166 overall this season.  The squads are currently 13-14 combined against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, the other league in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE

AJ Koele, DBU, SR, Master of Liberal Arts, Outside Hitter, The Woodlands, Texas, The Woodlands HS

Koele propelled the Lady Patriots to a pair of key conference wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International after leading DBU with 31 kills and a team-best .460 hitting percentage in straight set wins over the Javelinas and Dustdevils.  Against TAMIU, she had 19 kills and hit .600 in the sweep.  Koele averaged 5.17 kills per set and led DBU in scoring with 35.0 points while also contributing six total blocks as the Lady Patriots pulled to within 1.0 game of West Texas A&M for first place in the LSC standings.

DEFENSIVE

Emma Patterson, West Texas A&M, SO, Psychology, Libero, Amarillo, Texas, Highland Park

Patterson guided a defense that limited opponents to hit just .082, leading to WT's sixth consecutive sweep with wins over Midwestern State and Texas Woman's. The sophomore had 47 digs (7.83 per set) on the weekend including a career-high 27 against TWU to lead the back row.  She had two service aces and was awarded a kill to total three points on the weekend. She now ranks seventh in the LSC with 4.51 digs per frame.

SETTER

Lauryn Burt, DBU, SR, Masters in Leadership, Setter, Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS

Burt ignited a Lady Patriot offense that posted a .370 hitting percentage in a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Burt totaled 64 assists and averaged a team-high 10.67 assists per set as DBU swept the Javelinas and Dustdevils.
