PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Jordan Colbert, UT Tyler, SR, Finance, MF, Allen, Texas, Allen HS
Colbert scored both UT Tyler goals during the week, leading the Patriots in a pair of 1-1 draws against Texas Woman's and Angelo State. Both goals came via penalty kicks as the Allen native gave the Patriots 1-0 leads in each contest. Against TWU, Colbert swung in the free-kick cross that led to the foul in the box, then sent the keeper the wrong way to slot home the penalty. Colbert was a vital piece to a UT Tyler offense that outshot their opposition by an 11-to-10 margin in the two matches.
DEFENSIVE
Rachel Allen, DBU, SO, Management, DEF, Waxahachie, Texas, Midlothian Heritage HS
Allen played all 180 minutes and led the defensive charge in the Patriots' two wins over St. Mary's and Eastern New Mexico last week. In DBU's victory at StMU on Wednesday, Allen anchored a defense that held the league's second-highest-scoring team to just two shots on target and conceded zero goals from open play. She also netted her first career goal in the 13th minute on the way to a 2-1 win. On Saturday, Allen and the DBU defense held Eastern New Mexico to two shots, with zero on target, as the Patriots set a school single-game record with 42 shots. It also marked the first time the Greyhounds have been held without a shot on goal against a conference opponent this season.
GOALKEEPER
Reagan Heelan, West Texas A&M, SO, Engineering, GK, Kearney, Neb., Kearney HS
Heelan and the Lady Buffs' backline continued to shutout opponents on the way to a 2-0 week with wins against St. Edward's and Midwestern State to take over third place in the conference standings. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied five saves on the road against SEU and followed with seven stops against MSU. The Nebraska native lowered her conference-leading goals-against average to 0.359 on the season and moved into a tie for the lead in shutouts, notching her eighth and ninth of the season. Heelan and the WT defense have not allowed a goal since Oct. 1, racking up 395 scoreless minutes.
