LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 8

Six Lone Star Conference teams – DBU, St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, and West Texas A&M – were unbeaten last week.  WT leads the standings at 10-0 in LSC action and 18-4 overall.

      LSC volleyball teams are 189-184 overall this season.  The squads are currently 13-14 combined against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, the other league in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Megan Menchaca, Texas A&M International, SR, Business Management, OPP, Laredo, Texas, Alexander HS

Menchaca was the offensive catalyst for TAMIU in its 2-0 weekend to earn wins 15 and 16, setting a program record for wins in a season in the NCAA Division II era.  In the 3-0 win over Eastern New Mexico, Menchaca had a game-high 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .333 on the night.  She also added a solo block and block assist.  In the 3-1 victory against Lubbock Christian, Menchaca had another game-high of 21 kills while hitting .364.  She accompanied that with two solo and four block assists.  Menchaca is currently 5th in kills per set in the LSC and 9th in total kills.

DEFENSIVE
Dallasstar Johnson, St. Mary’s, FR, Psychology, MB, San Antonio, Texas, Madison HS

True freshman Dallasstar Johnson tied her own StMU single-match record (three sets) with 10 blocks in the Rattlers' sweep over UT Permian Basin. She had one solo and nine block assists, helping hold the Falcons to a .047 hitting percentage. Johnson also hit .457 (8-1-15) against the Falcons. In Saturday's sweep over Angelo State, she hit .538 (8-1-13), added three more blocks, and doubled her previous career-high with five service aces. For the week, Johnson averaged 2.67 kills/set, 2.17 blocks/set and 0.83 aces/set, all while hitting .500 and helping stretch StMU's winning streak to six.

SETTER
Blair Moreland, West Texas A&M, SO, Equine Industry and Business, S, Katy, Texas, Saint John XXIII HS

Moreland paced the Lady Buffs offense to a 3-0 week with a pair of LSC wins, totaling 69 assists, including a career-high 34 against UAFS.  The sophomore averaged 6.90 assists per set to go along with six service aces, 16 digs and a kill.  She ranks 10th in the Lone Star Conference with 5.51 assists per set.
