LSC Football Weekly Release - Week 9

Angelo State, Central Washington, Midwestern State, UT Permian Basin, and Western New Mexico each recorded Lone Star Conference wins last week.  ASU is the lone unbeaten team at 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the LSC.
 
      This week’s schedule includes five LSC contests.
 
      LSC football teams are 46-41 overall this season.  The squads are 7-1 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which are also in Super Regional Four.

LSC TO HOST 2022 DIVISION II FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The NCAA Division II Football Committee selected McKinney Independent School District Stadium in McKinney, Texas, as the host site of the 2022-25 Division II football national championship games.
 
      The 2022 title game is set for 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 17 and will be televised by ESPNU.
 
      McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center, a 12,000-seat facility built primarily for football, will host the championship contests on December 17, 2022; December 16, 2023; December 21, 2024; and December 20, 2025. 
 
      The Lone Star Conference in conjunction with McKinney ISD hosted the 2018, 2019, and 2021 championship games.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Devin Larsen, Western New Mexico, SO, Kinesiology, QB, Gilbert, Ariz., Queen Creek HS
Larsen led the Mustangs offense with two passing and two rushing scores in a 41-37 win against West Texas A&M.  He completed 29 of 42 passes (69%) for 433 yards and added eight yards on the ground.  Larson put WNMU ahead with a two-yard TD run with seven seconds left in the game.  The 433 passing yards was the most in the LSC this season and the first performance over 400 yards.
 
DEFENSIVE
Tanner Volk, Central Washington, SO, Business, S, Portland, Ore., Aloha HS
Volk led Central Washington’s defensive efforts in the Wildcats 23-19 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. The sophomore recorded a team-high 12 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss to hold the Javelinas to 247 yards.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
Gilbert Garza, Texas A&M-Kingsville, SO, Kinesiology, K, Weslaco, Texas, Weslaco East HS
Garza, showed off his impressive leg once again, nailing a 51-yard field goal at the end of the first half for the Javelinas after consecutive timeouts by Central Washington in an attempt to freeze him. Garza also knocked through a 22-yard field goal and two extra points for a total of 8 points on the night in the 23-19 loss.
