UT Tyler’s Mikayla Ware was named Lone Star Conference Volleyball Player of the Year as the league announced its annual postseason awards on Wednesday evening at the LSC Championship banquet.
West Texas A&M, the 2022 LSC champions, led the honorees with seven including Torrey Miller, Kayla Elliott, and Taytum Stow on the first team. The Lady Buffs Miller claimed Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second time, while Stow was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year.
UTT had six recognized with Ware on the top squad.
DBU Lauryn Burt earned Setter of the Year and Newcomer of the Year acclaim. The Lady Patriots had five honorees with Burt, AJ Koele, and Shaylee Shore on the first team.
Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Nicole Murff took home Libero of the Year honors. The Javelinas had three first-teamers - Murff, Ayanna Jackson, and Jackie Alanis - and five total.
Texas A&M International claimed two individual awards with Emma Lade earning Freshman of the Year honors, while Brittany Harry was named Coach of the Year. The Dustdevils had four recognized with three on the top team – Lade, Mackenzie Catalina, and Megan Menchaca.
St. Edward's Maya Smalls and UT Permian Basin’s Aquincia Strambler rounded out the All-LSC first team.
Four teams – DBU, TAMIU, TAMUK, and WT – had three players on the first team, while SEU, UTPB and UTT had one each.
The third annual All-Freshman Team included seven selections led by the Dustdevils Lade.
A total of 45 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC postseason awards program. The all-conference honors were selected by the league’s head coaches.
