Seven teams - Angelo State, DBU, Lubbock Christian, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, UT Tyler, and West Texas A&M - went 2-0 to start Lone Star Conference action. UT Tyler remains unbeaten this year at 5-0 overall.
LSC action continues with each team playing a double round-robin schedule within their eight-team division. Additionally, teams will play eight crossover contests against teams from the opposite division for a total of 22 conference games.
The LSC Men’s Basketball Championship will feature an eight-team field in 2023 with seeding based on the 22 conference games. The divisional winners will receive the top two seeds in the tournament. The championships are set to take place March 2-3-4-5, 2023, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
LSC men’s basketball teams are 72-42 overall and 17-17 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other league in the South Central Region.

OFFENSIVE
Kevon Godwin, Angelo State, JR, Interdisciplinary Studies, Guard, Blountstown, Fla., Blountstown HS
Godwin was the Rams' leading scorer as ASU was one of seven LSC teams to start conference play 2-0. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Godwin scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting, making five of his seven three-pointer attempts. He added six rebounds and three steals. Against Texas A&M International, the Florida native scored 19 points while shooting 50 percent from the field, also adding in five rebounds and three steals. Godwin leads the LSC in scoring (25.0) and steals (3.0) per game in conference play.
DEFENSIVE
Fredelin De La Cruz, Angelo State, SR, Interdisciplinary Studies, Forward, El Seibo, Dominican Republic, Trinity International
De La Cruz helped lead the Rams' defensive effort as they started conference play 2-0. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, De La Cruz recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds and blocked three shots. For the weekend, the Rams held opponents to a 38 percent shooting from the field as they held TAMUK and Texas A&M International below their season averages in shooting and points scored.
