Six teams - Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Texas Woman's, UT Tyler, and West Texas A&M – were 2-0 last week to begin Lone Star Conference play. West Texas A&M remains undefeated this season at 8-0 overall.
LSC games continue this week with each team playing a double round-robin schedule within their eight-team division. Additionally, teams will play eight crossover competitions against teams from the opposite division for a total of 22 conference games.
The LSC Women’s Basketball Championship will feature an eight-team field in 2023 with seeding based on the 22 conference games. The divisional winners will receive the top two seeds in the tournament. The championships are set to take place March 2-3-4-5, 2023, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
LSC women’s basketball teams are 64-50 overall and 22-16 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other league in the South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Madeline Stephens, Angelo State, JR, Health Science Professions, Forward, Lubbock, Texas, Monterey Senior HS
Stephens recorded another double-double for the Rambelles to begin the 2022-23 season. The junior forward had 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists in the Rambelles victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Lubbock native followed that up by scoring 19 points and pulling down eight rebounds in a victory over Texas A&M-International. Stephens shot 50 percent from the field, going 11-22 in the two contests while going 7-7 from the free throw line.
DEFENSIVE
Sawyer Lloyd, Angelo State, JR, Exercise Science, Guard, Wall, Texas, Wall HS
Lloyd turned in two huge defensive performances that helped the Rambelles begin conference play 2-0. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lloyd had a game-high five steals to go along with a block as the Javelinas were held to just 34.6 percent shooting. The Wall native followed that up by filling up the stat sheet against Texas A&M-International, with a game-high 20 points, six assists, four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. The Dustdevils were held to just 31.5 percent from the field and a season low 52 points.
