Two Lone Star Conference men's basketball team went undefeated last week as Midwestern State and UT Tyler completed perfect weeks. Cameron picked up its first two league wins of the season in a 2-1 week knocking off third-ranked Lubbock Christian in the process. Despite the loss, LCU's Parker Hicks helped the Chaps to a 2-1 week that included a 50-point performance from the senior, the first by an LSC player since December 13, 2010. The Chaps maintained their half-game lead over DBU in the standings with a 10-2 conference record. The Patriots are second at 9-3, and Texas A&M-Commerce is third at 8-3.
LSC men’s basketball teams are 218-161 overall and 20-12 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other conference in the South Central Region.

2022 LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are set for March 1-3-4-5-6, 2022, with first round games on-campus on Tuesday, March 1. The final eight teams will advance to the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, for the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds March 3-6. The top 12 men’s and women’s teams will qualify and be seeded based on the league standings following a single-round robin conference schedule (16 games).

Parker Hicks, Lubbock Christian, SR, Secondary Education, F, Decatur, Texas, Decatur HS
Hicks averaged a double-double across three games, scoring 36.0 points and pulling down 10.0 rebounds a game. He shot 61.8 percent from the field in the week, including 60.9 percent from behind the arc. Tuesday night was his biggest of the week, as the Decatur, Texas, native broke the LCU program record with 50 points in a single game. Playing against Texas A&M International, he scored the first 34 Chaparral points of the game. The 50-point performance was two shy of the LSC record for points in a conference game. The senior forward is the first LSC player to reach the 50-point mark in a game since Chris Hagen (Midwestern State) did it on Dec. 13, 2010. He followed up the record-setting showing with 29 points and 11 rebounds in each of the other two LCU games of the week, including a win over No. 24 West Texas A&M.

Kenyon Holcombe, Cameron, FR, Business Marketing, F, Tomball, Texas, Concordia Lutheran HS
Since entering the starting lineup, Holcombe has turned into a presence for the Aggies down low, leading CU to a 2-1 week thank included a win over No. 3 Lubbock Christian. Playing against some of the best big men in the LSC, Holcombe averaged 7.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks for the Aggies while shooting nearly 59-percent from the floor. Holcombe started the week with nine points and 12 rebounds against Texas A&M-Commerce and then had seven and five with a block and a steal in the win over Eastern New Mexico. His biggest game came against the third-ranked Chaps when he had seven points and six rebounds with four rejections, including his final one in double overtime when he turned away Parker Hicks to preserve CU’s one-point lead with 3:05 left.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Brock Schreiner, Cameron, not only reached a personal milestone this week but also helped the Aggies go 2-1, including a big upset win over No. 3 Lubbock Christian. The fourth-year guard started the week by pouring in a season-high 29 points in a four-point loss to Texas A&M-Commerce. Schreiner was 10-16 from the field and 6-9 from three with five assists and three steals against the Lions. After scoring nine points and adding five steals in CU's first LSC win over Eastern New Mexico, the Choctaw, Okla. native scored 20 points, including his 1,000th-career point, in the double-overtime win over the Chaps. Schreiner hit the go-ahead three with 24 seconds left in the second overtime and then knocked down the game-clinching free throws in the win.
Greg Bowie II, Texas A&M International, had a stellar week offensively for the Dustdevils, who took one of three on the extended road trip. On Tuesday, in a close 76-68 loss to #3 LCU, Bowie scored 33 points on 12-for-20 shooting, including 5-for-8 from three and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, alongside three rebounds and an assist. On Thursday, he followed that performance in the 89-86 OT loss to UTPB with another team-high 18 points, going 13-for-14 from the free-throw line, with four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. In Saturday's 65-54 win over Angelo State, Bowie contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Bowie averaged 20.7 points and 4.7 rebounds for the week and shot 91.7% (22-for-24) from the charity stripe.
C.J. Smith, Texas A&M-Kingsville, put together another outstanding week of basketball and it started with a season-high 26 points against Angelo State on Thursday night. Smith hit 10-of-19 from the field, passed out four assists and added two steals. On Saturday, he helped lead the Hogs to a 77-69 victory over UT Permian Basin by contributing 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting and picking up six assists. For the week, Smith averaged 18.5 points per game and shot 51 percent from the floor and he's now scored in double figures in seven straight games.
Soloman Thomas, UT Tyler, led the Patriots with 17 points in a 70-67 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday evening. Thomas went 6-for-11 from the field in the win and has extended his double-digit scoring streak to eight straight games. The Kansas City, Mo. has scored 16, 25 and 17 in his last three outings, leading the Patriots in all three of those games. Thomas averages 10.1 points a contest for the season.
Ricky Lujan, DBU, led a DBU offense that went 1-1 against Midwestern State and Western New Mexico last week. Against MSU, the sophomore guard posted 13 points and a pair of assists on 50 percent shooting (4-of-8.) Then, versus WNMU, Lujan notched a season-high 20 points and the game-winning jump shot with five seconds remaining to help DBU pull off a 16-point comeback win. He also registered six assists and shot 8-of-11 at the foul line for the week.
Moun'Tae Edmundson, Oklahoma Christian, had 19 points and six assists and went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the final 13 seconds in an 84-79 win at St. Mary's. He went 5 of 9 from the field (3 of 5 from 3-point range) as OC shot a season-best 55.4 percent from the field while recording its second straight win at St. Mary's. On Saturday, he had 11 points and matched his career-high with eight rebounds in a 79-64 loss at St. Edward's.
Jarius Roberson, Texas A&M-Commerce, had 12 points each in the two games this past week. He made four of his nine three-pointers in a win at Cameron on Tuesday and made four threes at UT Tyler on Thursday. He is 10th in the country and leads the LSC with an average of 3.5 three-pointers made per game.
Jalen White, DBU, totaled 11 defensive rebounds, five blocks, and a steal in last week's 1-1 split against Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico. The senior posted a career-high four blocks against the Mustangs to set the tone for a DBU defense that surrendered just 24 points in the second half and stormed back from a 16-point deficit to defeat MSU, 68-67. White also added 10 defensive boards and 11 points against the Mustangs for the third double-double of his career.
Will Chayer, Texas A&M-Kingsville, put together a phenomenal all-around performance in his team's Saturday win over UT Permian Basin. Chayer hit 5-of-6 from the field on his way to a season-high 15 points, collected six rebounds, blocked two shots and snatched two steals to help lead the Javelinas to a 77-69 road win in Odessa.
Tiras Morton, Texas A&M International, was fantastic for the Dustdevils all-around over the three-game road trip. In Thursday's close 76-68 defeat to #3 LCU, Morton scored eight points to go alongside a game-high 15 rebounds, one assist and two blocks. In Thursday's OT defeat to UTPB 89-86, Morton had five points, five rebounds and an assist. In TAMIU's 65-54 win over Angelo State on Saturday, he followed that performance with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double with four blocks and a steal. Morton averaged 10.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and two blocks per game for the week.
