Lubbock Christian wrapped up its second straight Lone Star Conference men’s basketball title as the fourth-ranked Chaps closed out the regular season with a pair of wins to finish 12-2 in league play. LCU was joined by five other teams who closed out the 2021-22 season undefeated in the final week, including No. 22 West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Midwestern State, St. Edward’s and Texas A&M-Commerce.
LSC men’s basketball teams are 250-193 overall and 20-12 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other conference in the South Central Region.

2022 LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are set for March 1-3-4-5-6, 2022, with the opening round on-campus on Tuesday, March 1. The final eight teams will advance to the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, for the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds March 3-6. The top 12 men’s and women’s teams will qualify and be seeded based on the league standings following a single-round robin conference schedule (16 games).

Daniels continued his hot shooting last week with his two highest-scoring games of the season. The senior averaged 30.0 points per game on .643 percent shooting against two regionally ranked opponents. On Thursday, Daniels scored a career-high 31 points and pulled down five rebounds as the Falcons scored 89 points against the fourth-ranked defense in the LSC. On Saturday, he dropped 29 against Texas A&M - Commerce. He went 6-for-10 in both games from three-point range and became the second player in program history to reach 100 made threes in a season. Daniels is sixth in the LSC in scoring, second in three-point percentage, and is the only player with more than 90 made threes in the conference.

Hicks averaged a double-double for the week and anchored an LCU defense that held Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico to a combined 37.0 percent shooting. Hicks notched his 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season during the 2-0 week. He now has a double-double in five straight games, and 18 of his 21 rebounds on the week came on the defensive glass. He also led the team in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game and added three blocks.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Demarcus Demonia, Texas A&M-Commerce, scored 17 points in the win at UT Permian Basin on Saturday, scoring 14 points in the second half. He shot 6 for 12 from the field and made three three pointers. He also had four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He finishes the regular season with an average of 6.0 rebounds per game, which is 11th in the LSC.
Micah Fuller, UT Tyler, averaged 19.7 points a game and made history in his final regular-season stretch as a Patriot by breaking the UT Tyler men's basketball career record mark for free throws made in a career. Fuller scored 20-plus points in the Patriot's outings against Cameron (23) and UT Permian Basin (24), and finished the week 19-for-38 (50.0 percent) from the field. His fourth free throw makes of the night in Tuesday's win over Cameron surpassed former Patriot Brandon Weasby's career record of 304 free throws for a career. Fuller's strong week included his third straight double-digit point total in Saturday's game against Angelo State, a 12-point scoring output to conclude his regular-season Patriot career.
C.J. Smith, Texas A&M-Kingsville, spent the week piling up points for the Javelinas, posting a total of 35 in two games. Smith started the week by logging 15 points and passing out three assists against West Texas A&M on Thursday. Two days later, he poured in 20 points, dropped two more dimes and added a steal to lead TAMUK to an 87-62 rout of Cameron. Against the Aggies, Smith was 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. For the week, Smith shot 55 percent from the field and averaged 17.5 points per game.
Paul Williams, Angelo State, put on a show shooting 6-11 from the field and 5-8, 62.5 percent, from three. The senior guard led the Rams with 21 points in 29 minutes of action. Williams also added four assists and three rebounds in the 88-64 victory over UT Tyler.
Drew Tennial, Oklahoma Christian, Tennial poured in 21 points in a 67-62 loss at Midwestern State in the Eagles’ season finale on Saturday. He went 9 of 16 from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and added four rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Will Chayer, Texas A&M-Kingsville, put together an excellent all-around week for the Javelinas, and it started on Thursday night. Against West Texas A&M, he logged 11 points, four rebounds, blocked three shots, handed out two assists and added a steal. On Saturday, he helped the Javelinas beat Cameron by scoring nine points with four more rebounds. In two games, Chayer averaged 10 points per game, shot 7-of-8 from the field and led the Javelinas in blocked shots.
Clashon Gaffney, Texas A&M-Commerce, had two blocks, four rebounds, and nine points at UT Permian Basin on Saturday in the Lions' win. He was 4-for-7 from the field during the week, and leads the LSC with an average of 2.9 blocks per game.
