West Texas A&M's Adam Becker received Lone Star Conference Baseball Player of the Year honors, highlighting 49 student-athletes to earn all-conference recognition, the league announced Wednesday at its annual championship banquet.
LSC Champion Angelo State garnered an LSC-high nine all-conference team selections, including a league-high five on the first team. The Rams’ first-team selections included starting pitchers Jake Rogers and Benjamin Elder, first baseman Aaron Walters, outfielder Justin Lee and utility player Austin Beck. Beck, a native of Allen, Texas, was also named LSC Freshman of the Year.
ASU's coaches were recognized as the LSC Coaching Staff of the Year. Head coach Kevin Brooks, assistant coaches Adam Foster and Sam Mote and volunteer assistant Bubba Walters guided the Rams to a 38-10 record in the conference and the team's fourth regular-season title since 2016.
West Texas A&M earned eight all-conference places, including two on the first team. Becker represented the Buffs at third base, and Ryan Johnson earned a first-team place in the outfield.
Becker, a junior from Midland, Texas, became the first WT player to earn the league’s top individual honor since 2018 and the fourth Buff all-time to receive the award. The third baseman leads the league in hits (80), RBI (75), and home runs (14) and has led WT to a 37-15 record in 2022.
Texas A&M-Kingsville also had eight all-conference selections, including second baseman Giancarlo Servin and catcher Nick Wolff who were named to the first team. Wolff was also named the LSC Newcomer of the Year in his first season in Kingsville.
St. Edward’s placed six players among the awards, including first teamer Wesley Gafford who was named the LSC Pitcher of the Year. Outfielder Stacey Bailey also received recognition on the first team for the Hilltoppers.
Lubbock Christian had six honorees, headlined by first-team duo Larry Leitha in the outfield and designated hitter Mason Donohoe.
UT Tyler pitchers Dylan Blomquist and AJ Irvin were recognized on the first team, with Blomquist picking up an additional third team award as a utility player. Patriots occupied five all-conference spots in total.
St. Mary’s Jake Mares rounded out the first team, earning recognition as the top shortstop on the team for the second consecutive season.
StMU had two student-athletes decorated in total, along with Texas A&M International. Eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma Christian and UT Permian Basin had one.
