SEU’s Hahn leads baseball academic honors

St. Edward’s Jake Hahn received Lone Star Conference Baseball Academic Player of the Year honors, leading nine standout student-athletes on the All-Academic Team. The awards were announced by the league Wednesday at the annual LSC Baseball Championship Banquet.

Hahn became the first Hilltoppers to claim the top academic award in baseball as he headlined the list of student-athletes recognized for their work in the classroom and on the field. The All-Academic Team is selected by the LSC’s sports information directors, who select players based on both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.

The Hilltopper first baseman was joined on the team by teammate Morgan Allen, Angelo State’s Jackson Hardy, St. Mary’s Jake Mares, UAFS’ Nolan Riley, UT Tyler trio Ethan Bedgood, Jordan Gochenour and Carson Cox and West Texas A&M’s Ryan Johnson.

Jackson, Riley and Gochenour all received their second consecutive all-academic team selection.

Hahn, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, won the league’s top baseball academic award with a 4.0 grade-point average as a Business major at SEU. The first baseman leads the Hilltoppers in hits with 67, and ranks in the top 15 in the LSC in batting average, hits, doubles, on-base percentage and walks. He has played and started in all 50 games for SEU this season and has helped lead the team to a 29-21 record in 2022.
