LSC Women's Soccer Weekly Release - Week 1

Nine Lone Star Conference women's soccer teams began the season unbeaten as they kicked off the 2022 campaign. Angelo State, ranked No. 25 by the United Soccer Coaches, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M all secured 2-0 weeks. Third-ranked DBU knocked off No. 8 UC Colorado Springs on the road to earn a 1-0 start, while WT and SEU both toppled No. 14 Emporia State in home matches.
 
      LSC women’s soccer teams are 15-5-2 following the opening week and 6-4-2 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other conference in the South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Juni Ejere, St. Mary's, SR, Business, F, Weatherford, Texas, Weatherford HS
Ejere scored the first two goals of the season for the Rattlers and added an assist on the first goal of the second game, helping the team start 2-0 for the first time since 2017. Against Southern Nazarene, Ejere scored twice in an 8-and-a-half minute stretch. Two days later, against Missouri Western, she found a streaking Eliza Merrion just one minute into the contest for the team's first three goals on the day.

DEFENSIVE
Maddi Davis, St. Edward’s, JR, Digital Media Management, DEF, Spring, Texas, Klein HS
Davis anchored a back line that allowed just three shots on target during the opening weekend of the season, leading the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 start. The junior from Spring, Texas, helped blank Newman in a 5-0 season-opening win while holding the Jets to zero shots. She followed that up with another stellar performance against No. 14 Emporia State, as the Hornets registered just three shots on target in a 2-1 SEU win. The victory over ESU marked the program's first over a Top 25 team since 2016.

GOALKEEPER
Abby Kone, Lubbock Christian, FR, Kinesiology, GK, Uvalde, Texas, Uvalde HS
Kone tallied back-to-back shutouts in her first two matches between the sticks for the Lady Chaps on the road in Durango, Colo. In the season opener against Western Colorado, Kone faced two shots in the match, recording her first collegiate save in the 3-0 win. Against Fort Lewis, Kone faced 10 shots, picking up a trio of saves to salvage a 0-0 draw as LCU opened the season 1-0-1.
