LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 4

Angelo State, Texas A&M International, UAFS, and West Texas A&M each went 2-0 last week as Lone Star Conference action started.

      LSC games continue this week.

      LSC volleyball teams are 115-113 overall this season.  The squads are currently 12-14 combined against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, the other league in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE

Torrey Miller, West Texas A&M, JR, Biology, OH, Brownwood, Texas, Brownwood HS

Miller led the Lady Buffs offense that went 2-0 in the LSC opening weekend as the junior totaled 51.5 points against DBU and UT Tyler.  She recorded a season-high 26 kills against DBU which is the second-most by a player from the LSC this season while also registering a pair of double-doubles to bring her career total to 40.  Miller had 21 kills versus UTT in the five-set win.  The Brownwood product totaled 47 kills on 107 swings with 16 errors to hit .290 on the weekend to go along with two assists, 22 digs, six blocks, and a service ace.  She now ranks 14th in Division II in total kills (190), and 20th in kills per set (4.04) and points per set (4.66).

DEFENSIVE

Taytum Stow, West Texas A&M, FR, Business, MB, Hereford, Texas, Hereford HS

Stow was once again a force at the net for the Lady Buffs after posting 12 blocks in opening weekend of conference action.  The freshman recorded a season-high nine blocks against UT Tyler which is the most by any Lady Buff this season. On the weekend she had 12 blocks, 15 kills, four digs, two aces, and 23.5 total points. She currently ranks seventh in NCAA DII in blocks per set (1.36) and sixth in total blocks (61).

SETTER

Ainsley Malis, West Texas A&M, SO, Sports & Exercise Science, Setter, Tucson, Ariz., Tanque Verde HS

Malis paced a Lady Buff offense that led off Lone Star Conference play 2-0 with wins against DBU and UT Tyler.  The sophomore recorded her first double-double with the Maroon & White against DBU with 15 assists and 12 digs before collecting 24 assists in the five-set thriller against UTT.  Malis added four service aces.
