LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 6

 
Volleyball cleared the first three weeks of the 2023 Lone Star Conference schedule with two teams unbeaten in their six league matches – Arkansas-Fort Smith and Dallas Baptist – and three others carrying a single loss – Angelo State (5-1), West Texas A&M (5-1), and Texas Woman’s (4-1). UAFS takes a break from LSC play this weekend while DBU is on the road for LSC matches at Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday and Saturday.

The October 9 AVCA/Taraflex Division II Top 25 poll has Lone Star Conference teams unchanged from the previous week: #5 West Texas A&M and both Angelo State and Dallas Baptist among the 15 teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking October 16.
 
LSC teams carry a combined 73-47 (.608) record against NCAA Division II opponents through matches of October 9 and includes a 17-8 mark versus South Central Region rival Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ... The LSC is 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast Region conferences, and 9-2 against Midwest Region opponents.

OFFENSIVE
Torrey Miller, West Texas A&M, Outside Hitter, Sr., Biology, Brownwood, Texas (Brownwood HS)
Torrey Miller led the West Texas A&M offensive efforts in a pair of key LSC road wins at Angelo State and UT Permian Basin. The senior opened with 11 kills and 15 points vs. ASU, then came back the next day to hit .333 for 20 kills and 20 points vs. UTPB. The senior sparked the WT defense with 29 digs (4.1/set) to post back-to-back double-double kills/assists performances.
 
DEFENSIVE
Angelina Hardison, UAFS, Middle Blocker, Sr., Organizational Leadership, Houston, Texas (Mayde Creek HS)
Middle blocker Angelina Hardison put down 18 blocks, including 5 solo stops, to lead the UAFS defense in three wins, including a pair of LSC victories. The senior recorded 8 blocks (3 solo), and a .348 attack for 10 kills, including the match winner, in the Lions’ comeback 3-2 win vs. Texas A&M International. She opened the week with 3 blocks in non-conference action vs. Drury and followed with 7 blocks against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
SETTER
Kayton Genenbacher, Lubbock Christian, Setter, Jr., Biology, Frenship, Texas (Frenship HS)
Junior Kayton Genenbacher helped Lubbock Christian to a trio of LSC road wins, including come-from-behind five-set wins at Midwestern State and St. Edward's. Playing a 5-1 offense, the setter recorded 139 assists (9.93/set), including double-double assist-digs performances against MSU (54a/14d) and SEU (39/16d). She posted a career-high five aces vs. SEU. Genenbacher closed the week with 46 assists (11.5/set) against St. Mary's.
