LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 7

 
Volleyball moves into the second half of the Lone Star Conference season with one team – UAFS – undefeated in conference play (LSC 6-0) sitting atop the standings. The Lions will be tested as they hit the road to face one-loss West Texas A&M (LSC 7-1) on Friday ahead of Saturday's match at Cameron. The league's other one-loss team -- Angelo State (LSC 7-1) -- hosts St. Edward's and St. Mary's. WT and ASU are tied at second in LSC standings with four teams jammed in fourth-place and each carrying two LSC losses – Texas Woman's, DBU, Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The October 16 AVCA/Taraflex Division II Top 25 poll lists West Texas A&M #5 for a fourth straight week. Angelo State is joined by UAFS among the 16 teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking October 23.
 
LSC teams carry a combined 76-48 (.613) record against NCAA Division II opponents through matches of October 16 and includes a 17-8 mark versus South Central Region rival Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  ...  The LSC is 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast Region conferences, and 9-2 against Midwest Region opponents.

OFFENSIVE
Elsa Lamphere, Angelo State, Outside Hitter, Sr., Interdisciplinary Studies, Aurora, Colo. (Grandview HS)
Elsa Lamphere averaged 4.14 kills behind a .356 hitting attack to lead the Angelo State offense in road wins at Lubbock Christian and Eastern New Mexico. The outside hitter nailed 16 kills behind a .344 attack against LCU, then came back against ENMU to hit .370 for 13 kills. She added 6 blocks for the two matches. Lamphere has recorded double-digit kills in each of her last four matches.
 
DEFENSIVE
Jeri Ficklen, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Middle Blocker, So., Biomedical Sciences, Cuero, Texas (CueroHS)
Jeri Ficklen put a roof on Homecoming weekend as Texas A&M-Kingsville posted wins over then-conference leading DBU and challenger UT Tyler. The sophomore was a wall posting five blocks in each match while rebuffing many other attacks in leading a TAMUK defense that held the two opponents to a combined .117 hitting percentage.
 
SETTER
Ainsley Malis, West Texas A&M, Setter, Jr., Sport & Exercise Science, Tucson, Ariz. (Tanque Verde HS)
Setter Ainsley Malis had a season high 9.00 assists per set running a 6-2 offense that helped West Texas A&M sweep Midwestern State and Texas Woman's. The junior totaled 27 assists each match as the Lady Buffs hit .431 combined over the two matches. Malis added 7 digs and an ace to her weekend stat line.
