LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 10


This is the final week of the regular season and teams are jockeying for position in the standings and a berth in the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. Conference matches are scheduled Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with the tournament bracket announced on Saturday night following conclusion of all league matches. Eight teams advance to the tournament which will be hosted by the No. 1 seeded team November 16-18.
 
The week opens with West Texas A&M atop the 2023 standings with one LSC loss. The Lady Buffs take a weekend trip to South Texas to face upset-minded Texas A&M-Kingsville (4th place) and Texas A&M International. Angelo State and Dallas Baptist are tied in second at two losses each and have a Friday showdown in Dallas. Texas Woman's and UAFS are locked in fifth place tie and play in Fort Smith on Saturday. UT Tyler (7th) and UT Permian Basin (8th) are looking to stave off challenges from Texas A&M International (9th, 3 matches left) and Lubbock Christian (10th) for tournament spots.

The November 6 AVCA/Taraflex Division II Top 25 poll lists West Texas A&M #5 for a seventh consecutive week and Angelo State among teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking November 13.
 
LSC teams are a combined 78-50 (.609) against NCAA Division II opponents through matches of November 4, including a 17-9 mark versus South Central Region rival Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  ...  The LSC is 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast region conferences, 9-2 against Midwest region opponents, and 35-31 against the Central region.

OFFENSIVE
Kaia Saylor, Texas Woman's, Outside Hitter, Sr., Education, Aubrey, Texas (Aubrey HS)
Outside hitter Kaia Saylor powered Texas Woman's in a key LSC weekend tallying double-digit kills on a hot .449 combined attack percentage in wins vs. Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Saylor averaged 4.56 kills over the nine sets, including 25 kills on a .477 attack in the five-set win vs. TAMUK, and totaled 11 digs and 43 points (4.78/set).
 
DEFENSIVE
Alyssa Koehl, St. Mary's, Libero, So., Exercise & Sport Science, New Braunfels, Texas (Canyon HS)
Solid defensive play from libero Alyssa Koehl helped St. Mary's tally a first-ever win vs. UT Tyler with four service aces and a match-high 22 digs. The sophomore followed with a match-best 22 digs in a four-set loss to DBU. Both opponents served at Koehl all night and she responded with a career-high 40 service receptions against UTT recording 32 more against DBU for a plus-.925 reception percentage. The Rattler offense was boosted by Koehl's six aces in 34 serves with no errors.
 
SETTER
Laney Dale, Angelo State, Setter, Sr., Management, Brock, Texas (Brock HS)
Working out of a 6-2 offense, Laney Dale facilitated an Angelo State offense that hit .308 for the week in sweeps of UAFS and Oklahoma Christian, including a .388 attack against OC. The senior posted 23 assists in each match to average 7.67 assists. Dale collected five service aces for the ASU offense and helped the Rambelles' defense with 12 digs.
