DBU senior Julia Garcia was named the 2023 Lone Star Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Year to lead the annual postseason women’s golf awards announced by league officials on Sunday (April 23) at the championship banquet.
Garcia, who is from Temple, Texas, owns the league’s best adjusted scoring average at 73.1 and ranks No. 12 in all of NCAA Division II. She has one tournament title (the West Regional Preview) and six Top 10 finishes this year. Garcia is a three-time Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American and four-time First Team All-LSC selection. She was the 2020 LSC Freshman of the Year.
Garcia topped the women’s first team that also included teammates Jordan Karrh and Olivia Mitchell, Angelo State’s Maria Sierra Sanz, UT Permian Basin’s Arnie Taguines and West Texas A&M’s Alyssa Campbell, Lorenza Perini and Gam Songprasert.
Taguines (74.54 adjusted scoring average) also took Freshman of the Year honors. She is the only freshman to receive all-LSC honors. West Texas A&M graduate student Anna Nomrowski (75.84) was voted Newcomer of the Year.
West Texas A&M’s Meredith Johnson earned the Coach of the Year Award after leading the Lady Buffs to four tournament titles and a top-10 national ranking.
In total, 19 players earned recognition. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
