West Texas A&M junior infielder Eddy Savoie picked up Lone Star Conference Baseball Academic Player of the Year honors to headline the baseball academic awards, it was announced by league officials Wednesday (May 10).
Savoie, who is from Montreal, Quebec and majoring in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, boasts a 4.0 grade-point average. He joined the Buffs in 2022 having already earned an associate degree in General Studies. Savoie is set to graduate this month, forgoing his senior season to pursue his career. On the field this season, Savoie has started 48 games and had 47 RBIs and 30 walks. He made just one error in 227 chances.
Savoie was joined on the academic team by Angelo State’s Austin Beck, Lubbock Christian’s Brevin McCool and Carson Ogilvie, Oklahoma Christian’s Jaren Hill, St. Mary’s Easton Parrish, UAFS’ Jakob Petross and UT Tyler’s Ethan Begood and Riley Lambert.
Bedgood was an All-Academic Team selection last year.
The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
