Cameron seniors Weston Max and Robyn Bales headlined a group of 13 student-athletes on the fourth annual Lone Star Conference Athletic Performance All-Conference Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday (July 18).
Max was named LSC Male Athletic Performance Athlete of Year, while Bales was voted LSC Female Athletic Performance Athlete of Year. The team recognizes student-athletes who excel in work ethic, dedication to process, attendance, communication, leadership and growth.
Max, a baseball student-athlete and native of Henrietta, Texas, is known as one of the hardest workers in the Cameron weight room. He brings energy every day so his whole lifting group increases their energy. Max also took underclassman under his wing and helped them develop their work ethic, attention to detail, strength and dedication. In addition to baseball lifts and runs in the mornings, Weston always shows up ready to go again in the weight room with a smile on his face. Even with optional recovery work, Max is sure to get his work in.
Bales, a softball student-athlete and native of Elk City, Okla., helped change the culture of a softball program with both her on-field work and effort in strength and conditioning sessions. It started when each
member of the team had to complete a conditioning test before being able to start fall practice. When one teammate continued to struggle to pass, Bales always showed up to run the test with her and cheer her on until she passed. Next was Bales calling out a freshmen who she caught skipping part of a workout. She explained to her that was not how they are building their culture. Bales did such a great job motiving that individual that she became one of the hardest workers in the weight room.
The individual awards are voted upon by the league’s athletic performance staff.
DBU, Lubbock Christian, Midwestern State, St. Mary’s, Texas Woman’s and West Texas A&M also had at least one representative on the team.
