West Texas A&M picked to duplicate men's cross country title; Runners to Watch announced

 
RICHARDSON, Texas --- Defending Lone Star Conference men's cross country champion West Texas A&M is predicted to win the 2023 LSC title according to the preseason poll announced today (Aug. 23) by the conference.
 
The Buffs, who are looking at a chance at an 11th straight LSC team title, collected 27 of 29 possible first place votes in polling among head caches, sports information directors and select media.
 
Dallas Baptist tallied a pair of first-place votes to list second with 343 points. Western New Mexico (309), St. Edward's (301) and Oklahoma Christian (252) complete the predicted top five. UT Tyler (245), Texas A&M International (193), Cameron (155), UA Fort Smith (134) and Lubbock Christian (130) follow sixth through 10th.
 
Angelo State (91), Eastern New Mexico (60) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (57) complete the 13-team list.
 
A total of 22 athletes are 2023 LSC Men's Cross Country Runner to Watch, including five of the top 10 finishers from last year's conference championship. Led by West Texas A&M junior Harry Louradour (Le Vigen, France), the reigning LSC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year and conference champion, the quintet includes Western New Mexico duo Elias Perez (El Paso, Texas) and Aaron Perez (El Paso, Texas) who finished fifth and sixth respectively, and a pair of DBU runners – Adam Whitehead (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Jeb Williamson (Kaufman, Texas) – the seventh and 10th place runners, respectively. All five competed in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional with Louradour advancing to the Division II national championship meet.
 
Lone Star Conference 2023 men's cross country seasons get underway September 1. The Lone Star Conference Championships are scheduled Saturday, October 21 hosted by Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. The NCAA Division II South Central Regionals are hosted by LSC member Lubbock Christian on November 4 at the LCU Cross Country Course. The Division II national final will be in Joplin, Mo., November 18.
