Top individual and team performances at NCAA Division II cross country nationals

Lone Star Conference men's and women's cross country teams claimed an individual top three finisher, a pair of top 15 team places, and four individuals among the Top 30 at the 2025 NCAA Division II Championships in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday (Nov. 22).
 
West Texas A&M senior Adrian Legarreta posted the best individual national championship finish of the LSC competitors, completing the men's 10K race in 29:44.3 for third place, just 6.4 seconds behind individual champion Kidus Begashaw of Adams State (29:38.8). Texas A&M International's Ian Rono crossed the line in 30:02.8 to place 11th as the highest finishing freshman in the men's championship. West Texas A&M sophomore Naomi Addo covered the women's 6K championship course in 20:54.8 to place 28th as the top LSC women's individual finisher.
 
The West Texas A&M women finished ninth in the Division II Championship standings (308 points) led by Addo and three Top 50 finishers -- Sarah Koomson (31st/20:59.1), Abigail Abugire (40th/21:04.9) and Julie Lafare (50th/21:17.0). Yvonne Legarreta placed 195th (22:49.4) as the fifth WT scoring runner.
 
Brook Latham of Oklahoma Christian and Megan Williamson of DBU competed as individuals. in the women's national championship. Latham finished in 51st (21:17.9) and Williamson 81st (21:38.1).
 
The West Texas A&M men placed 14th in the men's Division II Championships team standings (430 points). Legarreta was joined in the Top 30 by senior Matthys Bourse (30th/30:32.7). Tommaso Toppi (131st/32:03.1), Finlay Kavanagh (156th/32:15.5) and Berry Cox (172nd/32:25.7) completed the Buffs' scoring runners.
 
Grand Valley State scored 65 points to win the women's national team title by four points over Colorado School of Mines. Tristan Spence of Adams State claimed the women's individual championship posting a 20:11.0 time. Wingate was the men's national team champion outdistancing Adams State by nine points.
