Nine Top 25 individual finishers lead LSC at South Central Regionals

Lone Star Conference cross country runners and teams recorded solid performances at the NCAA Division II South Central Cross Country on Saturday (Nov. 8) in Pueblo, Colo.
 
Both West Texas A&M men's and women's teams placed fifth in team standings as five women's and three men's teams from the LSC closed the South Central Regional among the top 15. Competitors await Monday's (Nov. 10) formal announcement of at-large qualifiers to the NCAA Division II Championships.
 
LSC champion Ian Rono of Texas A&M International finished fourth in the men’s 10k (30:13.8) to qualify for the national meet. Rono will be joined by WT men’s team who were an automatic team qualifier by virtue of team finish.
 
Both Rono and WT’s Adrian Legarreta, who finished fifth on the individual list (30:16.9), are joined in the top 25 by Matthys Bourse of WT in 11th (30:42.1) and David Soto of UT Tyler at 23rd (31:13.1). The four also earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Weldon Chebon from New Mexico Highlands won the men's title (29:44.9).
 
In the women’s 6k race, five LSC runners placed in the top 25 led by West Texas A&M's Naomi Addo finishing sixth in 20:55.3. Addo's perfoemance is the top 6k time in the LSC this season. Megan Williamson of DBU followed in 15th (21:18.7). WT's Abigail Abugire was 23rd (21:37.6), Brook Latham of Oklahoma Christian 24th (21:39.3) and Julie Lafare of WT in 25th (21:39.7). The quintet also earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
 
A pair of LSC women’s teams -- West Texas A&M and Midwestern State -- posted top 10 team finishers with WT at fifth (192 pts.) and MSU in 10th (299). It is the sixth top five team showing and third straight for the Lady Buffs. MSU posted its best South Central Regional finish since taking ninth in 2016. Adams State won the women's team title with 42 points behind individual champion Tristian Spence (20:06.2).
 
In addition to WT and MSU, three other LSC women's teams claimed top 15 South Central Regional finishes: DBU, 11th (324); UT Tyler, 13th (390) and Oklahoma Christian, 15th (444). Twelve LSC women's teams competed in the regional.
 
Two LSC men’s teams joined West Texas A&M in the top 15 team list: DBU at No. 14 (404) and UT Tyler at No. 15 (438). It is WT’s fourth fifth-place finish and the ninth time as a top five team. DBU posted its fourth straight year in the top 15 while UT Tyler claimed a third consecutive top 15 spot. Ten LSC men's team competed in the regional.
 
Next: The 2025 Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are Saturday, November 22, at the Wayne E Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. Thirty-four teams will be selected for each gender’s national meet. The top three team finishers from the eight regionals earn automatic qualification and 10 at-large teams are selected by the Division II Cross Country Committee. Following determination of teams, a minimum 24 additional individuals are selected.
