PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

(Sept. 16 games)

OFFENSIVE
Dominique Loggins, Western Oregon, Jr., Undecided, RB, Tualatin, Ore., THS
Loggins rushed for 209 yards on 19 carries in a conference opening road game against unbeaten Eastern New Mexico. Loggins had a long run of 79 yards and it was a touchdown to give the Wolves their first lead, 22-17. Loggins became just the third player in the LSC over the last three years to eclipse the 200-yard rushing mark in a single game. It was also a top-10 performance in WOU history.

DEFENSIVE
Tanner Volk, Central Washington, Jr., Business, S, Portland, Ore., Aloha HS
Volk had 13 tackles and two interceptions – taking one back 81 yards for a touchdown – to fuel Central Washington’s 27-24 conference-opening home win over No. 9 Angelo State. Volk’s score came on a fake field goal pass and made the score 27-10 with 9:19 remaining in the game. Volk, who had 1.5 tackles for loss, spearheaded a unit that kept the Rams off the scoreboard in the first and third quarters.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Gilbert Garza, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Jr., Kinesiology, K, Weslaco, Texas, Weslaco East HS
Garza hit three field goals – all from 45 yards and beyond – to help No. 21 ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville to a conference-opening 30-9 road win over Western New Mexico. Garza, who did not miss, was good from 45, 50 and 53 yards. The 53 yarder was a career long and the longest in the LSC this season. He also added three extra points.
