Cameron University’s Jerry Hrnciar and West Texas A&M’s Dustin Vaughan were selected as the 2023 inductees to the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor, league officials announced on Wednesday (Sept. 13).
Hrnciar and Vaughan mark the 62nd and 63rd inductees into the LSC Hall of Honor, which distinguishes outstanding individuals who have brought pride and honor to the conference through their contributions as an athlete or who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the betterment of the conference as a coach or administrator.
“As a successful coach and leader, Jerry Hrnciar represented the very best of the Lone Star Conference. Dustin Vaughan was an elite player and a model student-athlete that won just about every athletic and academic award imaginable,” LSC Commissioner Jay Poerner said. “I am excited to see them both take their rightful place in our Hall of Honor.”
Longtime men’s golf coach Hrnciar is the third Aggie to be inducted, joining coaches James Helvey (2022) and Joe Jones (2018). Football star Vaughan is the third Buff to be enshrined, joining volleyball stars Sarah Butler Carthel (2008) and Julie Myatt O’Dell (2005).
Hrnciar and Vaughan were chosen by a panel of athletic administrators throughout the league. Both inductees will receive the LSC’s signature Hall of Honor award; a 15-inch, custom-sculpted eagle figurine mounted on a cherry wood base.

Jerry Hrnciar, Cameron University, Coach: In his 43 years as men's golf head coach at Cameron, Jerry Hrnciar set high standards for his players both on and off the course. He shaped Cameron into one of the premier NCAA Division II golf institutions in the Southwest, taking his teams to 21 national tournament appearances, including the 1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division II Championships. Additionally, Hrnciar led the Aggies to 11 Lone Star Conference titles (1989, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016).
Hrnciar was honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in the fall of 2012 as a member of their Hall of Fame. He was the seventh NCAA Division II Head Coach to be honored by the GCAA.
In 2007, Hrnciar was honored by the GCAA as the NCAA Division II District 6 Coach of the Year. The award marked the 13th time Hrnciar had been named a District Coach of the Year.
Hrnciar was a volunteer golf coach for the Aggies while working as the head golf professional at the Lawton Country Club. His tenure at the country club spanned for 16 years.
The Aggie teams under Hrnciar were a dominate force in the NAIA ranks. Cameron qualified for the NAIA national tournament eight times and won the national title in 1983.He also won national coach of the year honors in 1983.
Hrnciar was named Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year eight times (1990, 1992, 2001, 2004, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016). His 1990, 1996 and 2001 teams finished in the top 10 of the NCAA Division II Championships.
Dustin Vaughan, West Texas A&M University, Football: Dustin Vaughan finished his playing career as the all-time leader in five offensive categories where he led West Texas A&M to the NCAA Division II playoffs two times, including the first-ever appearance in the semifinals in 2012. The quarterback was twice named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Year while finishing second in the Harlon Hill Trophy voting as a senior in 2013.
The Buffs went 31-9 during his three-years as a starter where he completed 1,040 of 1,622 passes for 13,525 yards and 123 touchdowns. He still holds Lone Star Conference career records in passing attempts (1,624), completions (1,040), passing yards (13,525), passing yards per game (307.4), passing touchdowns (123), total yards (13,608) and total yards per game (309.3) to go along with numerous single-season league bests.
Vaughan was named LSC Male Athlete of the Year in 2014.
Vaughan also took care of business in the classroom, earning LSC Football Academic Player of the Year honors in 2012 and 2013 while also being named the conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was also named the CoSIDA Academic Player of the Year in 2012.
The Corpus Christi, Texas native signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He also spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
