LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 3

 
Wednesday (Sept. 20) marks the start of the 2023 Lone Star Conference schedule. All 17 teams will see LSC-count action over the next four days with eyes on the end goal – qualification to the eight-team LSC Tournament November 16-18.
 
Teams got a look at the conference competition during the past weekend crossover matches. Both West Texas A&M and Texas Woman's completed 3-0 weekends while seven teams had a single loss in their respective crossover grouping: Angelo State, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, St. Edward's, Texas A&M Kingsville, UT Permian Basin and UAFS.

Lone Star Conference teams carry a combined 71-47 (.602) record against NCAA Division II opponents, including a 17-8 mark versus teams from South Central Region teams out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. LSC was a perfect 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast Region conferences, and 8-2 against Midwest Region opponents through September 13.
 
The September 18 AVCA/Taraflex Poll lists West Texas A&M at #3 while Angelo State is among teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking September 25.
 
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK  Matches September 12-19
 
OFFENSIVE
Carly Evetts, West Texas A&M, Middle Blocker, Sr., Investigative Journalism, Canyon, Texas (Canyon HS)
Carly Evetts led the West Texas A&M offense to three straight set wins in LSC crossover matches last weekend. The senior middle blocker totaled 30 kills (3.75/set) behind a .443 attack percentage, including a .500 attack performance vs. UT Tyler (10 kills-0 errors-20 attempts). Evetts added 9 blocks and 3 service aces to her stat line.
 
DEFENSIVE
Daylee Doggett, DBU, Defensive Specialist, Sr., Psychology, Justin, Texas (Northwest HS)
Defensive specialist Daylee Doggett averaged 5.73 digs over 11 sets in the three DBU crossover matches at Canyon, Texas, including a season-high 32 digs in the Lady Patriots' comeback win vs. Texas A&M International. The senior spearheaded the DBU defensive effort to hold West Texas A&M, UT Tyler and TAMIU to a combined .120 attack percentage.
 
SETTER
Laney Dale, Angelo State, Setter, Sr., Management, Brock, Texas (Brock HS)
Setter Laney Dale averaged a double-double for the three-match weekend while directing an Angelo State offense that posted a .227 attack percentage over the three LSC crossover matches in Kingsville, Texas. Averaging 6.83 assists/set, Dale recorded season-high assists (32) and digs (18) vs. host TAMUK, and followed with 21 assists and 12 digs in a sweep of St. Mary's. The senior closed with a 30-assist, 16-dig performance in a five-set comeback win against UAFS.
