ASU (6-2 overall) extended its winning streak to six games and is now alone atop the LSC standings at 6-0. Western Oregon, who lost to TAMUK 21-14, and CWU are each 5-1.
ASU, CWU and WOU are all under consideration in the first Super Region Four
NCAA Divison II Regional Rankings, which were released Monday afternoon (Oct. 28).
Eastern New Mexico is producing 429.9 offensive yards per game, followed by CWU (416.4 ypg) and UT Permian Basin (381.3 ypg). ENMU is scoring a league-high 30.9 points per game, while CWU has found the end zone an LSC-best 34 times.
On the defensive side, CWU is allowing just 226.6 yards per game and has two shutouts. ASU (253.8 ypg) and UTPB (283.7) are also holding opponents under 300 yards per game. ASU has the LSC’s top scoring defense at 10.3 points per game and has allowed just 10 TDs all season. Over the last five games, the Rams have two shutouts and allowed more than one score just once – 10 points in against Sul Ross State last week.
Week 9 will feature four Saturday games, including an ASU-CWU matchup at 6 p.m. CT in San Angelo, Texas. UTPB and Western New Mexico have a bye.

OFFENSIVE
Ron Craten, Eastern New Mexico, FB, Sr., Physical Education, Oak Grove, La.
Eastern New Mexico senior fullback Ron Craten ran for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries to lead the Greyhounds to a 41-34 Chile Bowl win on the road over Western New Mexico. Craten’s 216 yards in a single-game high in the LSC this season. A 200-yard rushing game had been achieved in the conference just five times since the 2019 season. The last time was Sept. 16, 2023. Craten’s long run was 49 yards. He had the first score of the game then back-to-back TDs in the third quarter to distance a 20-14 game. Craten leads the LSC in rushing, averaging 110.1 yards per game – the only player over the century mark – with 11 TDs.
DEFENSIVE
Tanner Volk, Central Washington, S, Sr., Business Administration, Portland, Ore.
Central Washington senior safety Tanner Volk intercepted three passes to help the No. 20-ranked Wildcats defeat Midwestern State 42-21. Volk also had three solo tackles. He had one interception in the first quarter and two in the second. His first two picks set up touchdowns as the Wildcats took a 7-0 and 21-7 lead, respectively. Volk’s three interceptions were the most in a single game in the LSC since the 2021 season and only the second time it has happened in more than a decade. Volk, the reigning Division II defensive player of the year, now has 22 career interceptions – 19 since the Wildcats joined the LSC.

Luke Shaffer, Texas A&M-Kingsville, P, Jr., Marketing, Falls City, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville junior punter Luke Shaffer averaged 41.2 yards over five punts to help the Javelinas go on the road and hand Western Oregon its first conference loss of the season. Shaffer’s long punt was 50 yards in the 21-14 win. He pinned one punt on the five-yard line in the third quarter. The Javelinas would hold the Wolves to three-and-out and score on the next drive to make it a 21-7 game. Shaffer is second in the league in punting average and booms of 50 yards or more.
