For the fourth consecutive week, the Lone Star Conference has the No. 1 team in the country, according to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll. West Texas A&M, which is on a 21-game winning streak and has not lost away from home all season (13-0), is receiving all 16 first-place votes in the weekly poll. DBU is ranked No. 4 in the same poll.
 
WT (18-0) is the only team in the 16-team league unbeaten in conference play. DBU is 15-3, while Lubbock Christian is 14-4. Angelo State (12-7), St. Edward’s (11-7), Eastern New Mexico (11-7), Cameron (11-8) and UT Permian Basin (10-9) have also reached double-digit league wins. WT (West) and DBU (East) are both leading division play at 12-0 and 11-1, respectively.
 
Texas A&M International prevailed in four consecutive contests. ASU and UTPB have won two in a row.
 
DBU has the league’s top-scoring offense (88.3 points per game), while TAMIU is tops in the conference by allowing just 65.8 points per game.
 
Individually, ENMU’s Jahcoree Ealy leads the league in scoring at 21.3 points per game, followed by DBU’s Cameron Kahn (20) and WT’s Larry Wise (19.8). UTPB’s Lathaniel Bastian is pulling down a league-high 10.7 rebounds per game, followed by St. Mary’s Lachlan Bofinger (8.6) and LCU’s Tiras Morton (8.6). St. Edward’s Blake Nielsen is the LSC’s assists leader (4.9 per game). WT’s Ryland Holt has the most blocked shots (37), while DBU’s Ta’Jay Dunlap averages a league-high two steals per game.
 
LSC teams carry a combined 42-33 (.560) record against NCAA Division II non-conference opponents. Region-by-region: South Central (RMAC) 21-20; Atlantic 1-0; Central 13-8; East 1-0; Midwest 1-1; South 2-0; Southeast 1-0; and West 2-4.
 
The first NCAA Division II regional rankings are scheduled to be released this week.
 
Thursday (Feb. 22) is a special date as 293 active member institutions, 23 conferences and over 126,000 student-athletes within Division II celebrate DII Day. The day serves as an opportunity for all associated with NCAA Division II to celebrate the impact of athletics and student-athletes on their campuses and communities.
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will again be held at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The men’s field will be compiled of the top eight teams, based on conference-only standings. Division champions will automatically qualify for the LSC tournament, but are not guaranteed a top 2 seed. The men’s games will be held March 7 (quarterfinals), 9 (semifinals) and 10 (final). LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Games Feb. 15-17
 
OFFENSIVE
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, Angelo State, G, Gr., Criminal Justice, Midwest City, Okla. (IMG Academy)
Embery-Simpson averaged 26 points, four rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals to help Angelo State to a 2-0 week against Cameron and Midwestern State. Embery-Simpson, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, also had two blocks. He made nine 3-pointers and was 5-for-6 from downtown against Cameron to help snap a two-game skid. Both his point totals (28 and 24) were game highs.
 
DEFENSIVE
Olaverr Camacho, Texas A&M International, F, Jr., Business Administration, Santa Rosa, Guatemala (Ribet Academy)
Camacho pulled down 14 defensive rebounds and blocked two shots to help lead Texas A&M International to a 2-0 week against nationally-ranked DBU and UT Tyler. Camacho, who takes the conference’s top weekly defensive award for the second consecutive week, also averaged 11 points. In the upset over top-5 DBU, which had won five straight and 13 of its last 14, Camacho had a double double (10 points and a game-high 10 boards). Camacho and company held the conference’s top-scoring offense to a season-low 55 points.
