The final week of the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball regular season is here. While some LSC Basketball Championships berths are still on the line, the regular season and division titles have been claimed.
 
No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M wrapped up its second straight LSC regular season conference championship on Saturday. The Buffs (25-2, 19-1 LSC, 12-0 West Division), who were already division champions, will be the No. 1 seed at the LSC Basketball Championships at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
 
No. 8-ranked DBU (22-4, 16-4 LSC, 11-1 East Division) has also secured a division title.

In the first NCAA Division II regional rankings released on Feb. 21, six LSC teams were listed as under consideration (in alphabetical order): Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian and WT.
 
As far as winning streaks, UT Permian Basin has won four in a row. St. Edward’s, which snapped WT’s 22-game winning streak on Saturday, has won three consecutive contests. Eastern New Mexico has also won three in a row.
 
DBU has the league’s top-scoring offense (88.2 points per game), while Texas A&M International is tops in the conference by allowing just 65.6 points per game.
 
Individually, 12 players in the league are averaging more than 15 points per game. UTPB’s Lathaniel Bastian is pulling down a league-high 10.4 rebounds per game, followed by St. Mary’s Lachlan Bofinger (8.8) and LCU’s Tiras Morton (8.3). St. Edward’s Blake Nielsen is the LSC’s assists leader (five per game). WT’s Ryland Holt has the most blocked shots (39), while DBU’s Ta’Jay Dunlap and Texas A&M-Kingsville’s C.J. Smith average a league-high 1.9 steals per game.
 
LSC teams carry a combined 42-33 (.560) record against NCAA Division II non-conference opponents. Region-by-region: South Central (RMAC) 21-20; Atlantic 1-0; Central 13-8; East 1-0; Midwest 1-1; South 2-0; Southeast 1-0; and West 2-4.
 
The conference tournament field will be compiled of the top eight teams, based on league-only standings. The games will be held March 7 (quarterfinals), 9 (semifinals) and 10 (final). Tickets have gone on sale. For more information, click here.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Games Feb. 22-24
 
OFFENSIVE
Greg Johnson, Eastern New Mexico, G, Sr., University Studies, Little Rock, Ark. (Little Rock Hall HS)
Johnson averaged 27 points, four rebounds and 2.5 assists to help lead Eastern New Mexico to wins over Oklahoma Christian and UAFS. Johnson, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, also had three steals and one block to help the Greyhounds extend their winning streak to three games. Against UAFS, he poured in 30 points – his third time reaching 30 this season. Over the two games he shot 53.3 percent from the floor and made 16 free throws.
 
DEFENSIVE
Bennett Mohn, St. Edward’s, F, Jr., Business Finance, Austin, Texas (Lake Travis HS)
Mohn’s defense helped lead St. Edward’s to wins over No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian (receiving votes). In an 88-87 win over WT, which had won 22 games in a row, Mohn blocked the Buff’s final shot attempt in the paint to secure the victory. On the week, he had five defensive rebounds, two blocks and one steal. The players he primarily guarded combined for 30 percent shooting. Mohn also averaged 14.5 points.
