The Lone Star Conference baseball season is seven weeks in.

No. 5-ranked West Texas A&M is on top of the standings at 19-6 and is coming off a 3-1 series win over UT Permian Basin. Texas A&M-Kingsville (15-13) had the only conference series sweep last weekend, taking all four on the road against UAFS. UT Tyler (17-11) has won three games in a row, winning the series against St. Edward’s.

Lubbock Christian leads the league in hitting (.345), while No. 15 Angelo State has the top pitching (5.09 ERA). ASU also owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.974).

ASU’s Tripp Clark is leading the league with a .457 batting average (as well as 46 RBIs), followed by teammate Jacob Guerrero (.436) and Cameron’s Lance Barnett (.414). Barnett also leads the league with eight home runs. LCU’s Carson Ogilve has an LSC-high six triples, which is two more than anyone else. He also has a conference-high .790 slugging percentage. ASU’s Tayten Treadaway has league best 15 doubles.

On the mound, St. Edward’s Jakub Rayfield and UT Tyler’s Garrett Arredondo – both right-handers – have a conference-best 2.51 ERA. Angelo State teammates Dax Dathe (righty) and Alezeah Gutierrez (lefty) have a league-high five wins along with UAFS righty Luke Davenport. Dathe also leads the LSC with 53 strikeouts – nine more than anyone else. UTPB righty Brock Robarts has six saves to lead the league.

St. Mary’s play-by-play announcer Rob Shadow has started a podcast called, “Baseball in the Lone Star Conference.” The first five episodes are available on Spotify. Fans can listen to the entire episode or specific clips of interviews with LSC players of the week and coaches across the league. To listen, click here.

ASU was the top pick in the LSC preseason poll. ASU junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.
