CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
The eight-team field has been announced for the 2024 Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held April 25 (quarterfinals), April 26 (semifinals) and April 27 (final) at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. Punching tickets are Midwestern State, Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, St. Mary’s, Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Permian Basin.
MSU is the top seed after claiming the regular season title with a perfect 10-0 league mark. The Mustangs (18-3 overall) are five-time LSC champs (also 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018) and five-time LSC tournament champs (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019). MSU, which has won 11 matches in a row, will take on No. 8 seed UT Permian Basin (8-14, 2-7 LSC) in the first round at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Angelo State (18-2 overall) is the No. 2 seed after going 9-1 in league play. The Rambelles, who have won six matches in a row, will face No. 7 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville (10-9, 4-6 LSC) in the first round at Noon CT.
Other first round matchups with include No. 3 seed and 2016 LSC tourney champ Cameron (11-7, 8-2 LSC) against No. 6 seed LCU (14-6, 5-5 LSC) at 8:30 a.m. CT and No. 4 seed DBU (16-6, 6-4 LSC) against No. 5 seed and two-time defending LSC tournament champion St. Mary’s (11-7, 6-4) at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Friday’s semifinal matches and Saturday’s championship match begin at 9:30 a.m. CT.
The tournament format is three, 6-game set doubles matches with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all. Following doubles matches, teams will play six best-of-three set singles matches. Once one team reaches four points, remaining singles matches will be abandoned.
The winner of the conference tournament will be named the LSC Women’s Tennis Tournament champion and earn the league’s automatic qualification to the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship. The regional selection show is scheduled for May 6 at 7:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. The South Central Regional will be held May 10-11 at sites to be determined, while nationals are set for May 20-24 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
