Championship Central
The 2024 Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship field of eight teams is set following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday afternoon (April 28).
The conference championship is a two-week event. The first week includes four, best-of-three series on May 3-5 (Friday-Sunday), hosted by the higher seed in each matchup. The winner of each opening round series will advance to a double-elimination tournament on May 9-11 (Thursday-Saturday) hosted by the highest remaining seed.
Lubbock Christian (26-14 overall) won the LSC regular season championship for the first time in program history with a 25-13 league record and earned the No. 1 seed. The Chaparrals, who have hit a league best 50 home runs and 30 triples, enter the event on a league-best five-game winning streak.
West Texas A&M (25-15, 24-14 LSC), which won the conference tournament in 2016 and 2017, secured the No. 2 seed. Defending NCAA Division II national champion and two-time defending LSC tourney champion Angelo State (34-16, 32-16 LSC) took the No. 3 seed. The Rams also won the event in 2012 and 2015. UT Permian Basin (30-20, 28-20 LSC) locked down the No. 4 seed.
Opening round series will be hosted by LCU (Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas), WT (Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas), ASU (Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium in San Angelo, Texas) and UTPB (Roden Field in Odessa, Texas).
Last year’s South Central Regional finalist UT Tyler (28-21, 28-20 LSC) captured the No. 5 seed, followed by No. 6 seed Texas A&M International (24-26, 24-24 LSC), No. 7 seed UAFS (23-25, 23-25 LSC) and No. 8 seed St. Edward’s (23-27, 23-25 LSC).
The opening round matchups will feature LCU vs. SEU; WT vs. UAFS; ASU vs. TAMIU; and UTPB vs. UT Tyler. The host teams will be the home team in the scorebook every game. Each series will have one game per day scheduled for nine innings. The 10-run rule is also in effect. The start times will be announced on Monday (April 29).
Every game of the 2024 LSC Baseball Championship will be available on the LSC Digital Network at LoneStarConferenceNetwork.com or on the LSC Digital Network OTT app. Fans will be able to purchase each game for $15 or customers who have a monthly ($30) or yearly pass ($140) will have access to all games.
The winner of the event will be named the Lone Star Conference Baseball Tournament Champion and earn the league's automatic qualification to the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional on May 16-19 at a site to be determined. The Division II baseball selection show is scheduled for May 12 at 9 p.m. CT. on NCAA.com.
