The 2024 Lone Star Conference baseball regular season is complete and the league’s
postseason tournament is set. Punching tickets: Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Angelo State, UT Permian Basin, UT Tyler, Texas A&M International, UAFS and St. Edward’s.

LCU and head coach Nathan Blackwood
won the first LSC championship in program history with a league mark of 35-13. The Chaps ended the season with a four-game home sweep of Eastern New Mexico to hold off WT by one game (34-14) in the standings.
WT leads the league in hitting (.343), while ASU has the top pitching (4.95 ERA). ASU also owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.972). Cameron has hit an LSC-high 77 home runs.
ASU’s Tripp Clark won the regular season batting title with a .436 average. UT Tyler’s Nathan Carriere (.426) and LCU’s Carson Ogilvie (.423) were next in line. Clark also led in RBIs (74) and OPS (1.293). Ogilvie was tops in slugging percentage (.786), hits (85), doubles (23) and runs scored (75). Cameron’s Wyatt Grant had the most home runs with 18, just two ahead of teammate Lance Barnett. TAMIU’s Nomar Prieto and ASU’s Jacob Guerrero swiped 25 bases, while WT’s Kyle Micklus led the LSC with a .540 on-base percentage.
On the mound, UT Tyler right-hander Rawley Hector took the regular season ERA title at 2.94. The next closest qualifier was 4.10 (TAMIU righty Isaac Ponce). LCU left-hander Ryan Markwardt led the LSC with nine wins – two more than anyone else (seven pitchers had seven). ASU righty Dax Dathe struck out a league-high 90 batters – 13 more than Ponce. UTPB righty Brock Robarts had nine saves to lead the LSC. WT righty Reese Miller had seven.

HITTER
Brevin McCool, Lubbock Christian, 3B, Jr., Undecided, Hobbs, N.M. (HHS)
McCool went 10-for-17 with a home run and five doubles to help fuel Lubbock Christian to a series sweep of Eastern New Mexico and secure the program’s first regular season championship. McCool, who takes the league’s top weekly hitting award for the second time this year, had nine RBIs and scored five runs. He had at least two hits in each game and an extra-base hit in all but one. In the series opener, he hit his homer and two of his doubles. He walked once and struck out just one time.
PITCHER
Rawley Hector, UT Tyler, RHP, Jr., Marketing, Van Alstyne, Texas (Anna HS)
Hector tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout to earn the win for UT Tyler against UAFS. Hector struck out three batters and only allowed singles over the seven frames. UAFS did not have a runner advance past second base. The right-hander’s performance also secured the league’s regular season ERA title (2.94). Hector, who wins the league’s top weekly pitching award for the second time this season, has not allowed a run since April 5.
