LSC Baseball postseason awards announced

Lubbock Christian senior shortstop Carson Ogilvie claimed Lone Star Conference Baseball Player of the Year honors to highlight the league’s baseball postseason awards, which were announced by league officials on Wednesday (May 8) at the championship banquet in Lubbock, Texas.
 
Ogilvie, who is from Spring, Texas, hit .423 in the regular season and led the conference in hits (85), triples (seven), doubles (23), runs scored (75) and slugging percentage (.786). He also hit 12 home runs, drove in 59 runs and stole 20 bases. In addition, Ogilvie helped lead Lubbock Christian to its first LSC regular season championship.
 
UT Tyler junior right-hander Rawley Hector was named LSC Pitcher of the Year after winning the league’s ERA title at 2.94. The Van Alstyne, Texas native went 7-3 with two complete-game shutouts and ended the regular season with a 14-inning scoreless streak. He allowed just three home runs over 67 1/3 innings of work.
 
West Texas A&M catcher Kyle Micklus took Newcomer of the Year honors after batting .421 in the regular season and leading the conference with a .540 on-base percentage. The junior from Waller, Texas was also in the LSC’s top-5 for hits (75) and runs scored (64). Micklus threw out 16 baserunners.
 
Texas A&M International’s Isaac Stanwick was voted LSC Freshman of the Year. The Eagle Pass, Texas native hit .304, scored 48 runs and drew 41 walks in the regular season. Stanwick also stole 11 bases and started every game in center field.
 
Lubbock Christian won the Coaching Staff of the Year award after guiding a 36-14 regular season record and the first LSC championship in program history. The Chaps’ staff is comprised of head coach Nathan Blackwood, assistant coaches Jermaine Van Buren and Brandon Walker, and graduate assistants Chandler Casey and Jacob Ochoa.
 
Overall, 49 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches.
