Lone Star Conference football season is underway.
Week 0 featured games on three straight days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No. 21 UT Permian Basin, West Texas A&M, Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico all started their seasons with victories. UTPB (over Western New Mexico) and WT (over Sul Ross State) were conference wins. No. 8 Central Washington and Western Oregon had byes. To read the recaps, click

The highest offensive output in Week 0 was ENMU with 644 yards and nine touchdowns against New Mexico Highlands. Defensively, UTPB surrendered just 118 yards and did not allow a touchdown.
Week 1 will feature nine teams in non-conference action with just one team at home (ENMU). Only Texas A&M-Kingsville has a bye. WT has the only Thursday game. Everyone else will play Saturday.

Sean Johnson, West Texas A&M, QB, Jr., Sports and Exercise Science, Orlando, Fla.
West Texas A&M junior quarterback Sean Johnson ran for four touchdowns – two in the fourth quarter – and passed for another to lead the Buffs to a 42-21 season-opening conference road win over Sul Ross State. Johnson rushed for 167 yards on 14 carries and was 20 of 26 through the air. One of his touchdown runs was for 50 yards in the fourth quarter to extend a 28-21 lead. Four TDs was the most by a WT player since the 2018 season and 167 rushing yards was the most since the 2021 season.
DEFENSIVE
Tristan Exline, UT Permian Basin, LB, So., Human Performance, China Spring, Texas
UT Permian Basin sophomore linebacker Tristan Exline had two sacks to lead a unit that did not allow a touchdown and surrendered just 118 yards of total offense in a season-opening conference win over Western New Mexico. Exline also had four tackles – two solo and 2.5 for a loss of eight yards – to help No. 21 UTPB hold WNMU to just 1-for-12 on third-down conversions. Exline and the defending LSC champions shut out WNMU in the second half of the 41-3 win.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Angel Diaz, UT Permian Basin, K, Fr., Petroleum Engineering, DeSoto, Texas
UT Permian Basin freshman kicker Angel Diaz was 4-for-4 on field goals – including a long of 47 yards – and made all three of his extra-points to help the No. 21-ranked Falcons to a season-opening conference win over Western New Mexico. Diaz, who made one field goal in each quarter, was also good from 32, 36 and 25 yards for the defending LSC champions.
